In all the years I've lived in different places around NYC I've never been able to get a listenable signal for WFMU.

they are about to go live very soon. i'd say it will be able to stream it from WFMU's archives. it seems like most of it gets archived (actually few interesting sets in there). I'll record it as well (just in case).

pretty sure, better source be in archives soon. in the meantime here's my recording. 5 or 6 funny soundz during the recording. I don't think it was something from my computer. there's a break during the set and 2 or 3 songs were played during that break. I didn't bother to cut it out.

it's up already

http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/35400

SF's setlist: Falling Off the Map / 29 Palms / Burning Bridge / Toot Toot / Sat Around.

I really like it. Pete shows he has no problem playing guitar whatsoever. I liked his deliberate shifting from out of tune and harmony melodies during the solos and so. couldn't help it, but their guitar sound reminded me Bardo Pond so much. one thing I found annoying was his singing. didn't fit with the whole sound. some nice unique beats from Steve.

Spectre Folk are really good. Pete is a very talented person. I actually got into MM recently too. Weird, I know, it took like 4 years but for some reason I hard the urge to put on a few things recently and it kinda hit me in the same way a Jandek record does -- like, you have to be in the mood for it but the sloppy detuned abrasive stuff is actually quite good. I like the really old two guitars/drums stuff a lot now. Shrug. And like I said elsewhere, I like "Sisterworld" by Liars now. I dunno, I think I've been quick to write off certain things before but now that I'm really paying attention, and not trying to absord so much albums at the same time, I find myself really listening to an album, even if it doesn't initially strike me, multiple times, and I think I can appreciate aspects of it I couldn't before.

What's next? Me liking Mars Volta? (no fucking way!)

Thanks, I like you too... I have OCD, and for years this has influenced many of the things I do, and decisions I make. It's like my brain is lying to me. I think I've always had this, "I want to hear more music than anybody!" and be this walking encyclopedia.

But the older I get, the more I level out, and mellow out, and along with some personal shit I've dealt with, I think I'm starting to realize that life's too short to like everything that is ever good. I mean, I haven't even started on books; I've read plenty of great ones, but you know? Think how long it would my life would have to be if, along with my movie and music and video game addiction, I was reading books all the time too.

So, yeah, I'm just trying to mellow out and trying not to be so spastic about everything; I'm not forcing myself to like something, I've noticed that a lot of albums, especially the more abstract/experimental/underground stuff many of us on here cling to, just take more than a listen to get into, and if it doesn't initially strike me, maybe I should try a few more times before writing it off. My motto in life is that everything worth having, is worth working for. I think the best cd's are the ones that don't jump at me right away, that take a bit of work -- or multiple listens -- to really appreciate the beauty of them.

Years past, I'd already have a "top 100 for the year!" but now I only have a top 10... I just am not listening to as much of a variety of music as before, but I'm still listening to a lot of music, period. And it's interesting, and I'm glad that my mind has changed, and feeling has changed, towards certain groups and music in general.

I want to say another thing. Back 4 years ago or whatever, whenever I'd post anti-MM rants, I think one of the things that turned me off about the band was how I'd read a live show, and it'd be like "they were all in your face, confrontational, proud to be hated" and stuff. And that kinda turned me off, and I couldn't get into their recordings because of it.

But actually, I've come to realize since then that their music, in all its sloppiness, is actually quite brilliant; no riffs, no real structure, no melodies, taking rock to year zero. It's actually quite interesting in that context. And I dunno, maybe that live thing was just their rawness, their energy coming out. Whatever.

Either way, they earned their success. They did work hard to achieve what they've achieved, they played tons of shows. Actually, I feel really bad about ever saying anything bad about most bands (what!), especially the ones who have worked hard, toured, played beat-up equipment, put their heart and soul into something .. even if people didn't give a shit. Back when I posted all the negative stuff, I hadn't played a bunch of shows yet, so I had no context of what it's like to put your love into something nightly; while I don't personally care if people aren't into it, it does kinda make you stop and go, 'What's the point of me wasting my time/effort/energy/money?'

Even if I am not personally into a band's sound, I am glad bands are out there making it. I totally respect the bands who just go for it. Don't get me wrong, there are lazy ass people who just record some feedback, never tour, and somehow are the hottest thing on the blog block. But MM wasn't, and isn't one of those bands. They earned every fan they have.

So, it may be weird for me to defend them now, but I totally get them now, and I've changed as a person overall. No longer will I be so hateful towards bands just because I don't "get" them -- obviously, the band is playing what it wants to play for some reason, it must be something they enjoy doing; I should be happy for them for making the sounds they want to make, not so upset because I'm not into it.

I feel really bad about any of the bands I have insulted -- except Mars Volta -- and I feel bad about the people I've argued with on here, about stupid bullshit. I have definitely changed as a person; I used to be a very angry person, in general. I'm not going to blame anyone, but let's just say my life hasn't been easy. I will say that some of my posts were highly exaggerated, obviously, and at one point, I was proud to be hated, proud to be some kind of all-knowing self-deluded message board asshole. But obviously, that character died a long time ago...

And in the past few years, after my aunt's death, my girlfriend of 7 years cheating on me out of nowhere, and my mom recently developing cancer and having surgery this week.. I realize how petty and stupid I was for not enjoying life, for being so angry with people, for causing arguments on here. For not respecting the people who love music. Looking back on it, I shouldn't have let weird press, live show reviews, and whatever else cloud my judgement. I should have just said, "Okay, this stuff isn't my thing; I'll come back to it one day." Because here I am, many years later, coming back to it, and realizing I actually enjoy it.

I'm really sorry to anyone I've ever offended, pissed off, disrespected, bothered, annoyed, angered, jerked around, etc.

Except Keeping It Simple.
