Fucking SERIOUSLY. I wanna fucking rip my eyes out it's so bad. Right now my sister is watching a show on VH1 called " Show us your tats! " A half hour of television dedicated to celebrity tattoos. I really wish the US still did public tarring and featherings.

I haven't watched TV since about 1994, except when I'm at my mom's.

most of tv is a trench in our cultural landscape, i agree, but there are some good, thought-provoking shows. battlestar galactica didn't have the strongest second season (it was divided into 2.0 and 2.5, most of 2.5 blew) but there's always topics they bring up that i sit and think about afterwards. lost could be a friggin' college class with all the analyzing you have to do to remember what the hell happened the last time they actually showed an episode. for sheer entertainment, the office is brilliant comedy and is THE best comedic show ("sitcom" is a horrible word) to come along in basically forever.
there's no excuse for vh1 or mtv, though. it's just horrible. screamingskull- the commune thing is a neat idea. i'm too in love with big cities to ever do it, however.

I think the Utah comment was a joke...That is where fundamentalist Mormons control everything and you can't even drink beer at a restaurant or buy it in some cities.

All the shows I like get cancelled, and all the shows that get hyped up by everyone almost never lives up to its hype.

Parts of Utah are almost as ass backwards as Kansas. They are very sincere about what they believe though.
You can become the 15th wife of a preacher in rural Utah and live on a commune. Is that hippie enough for you? |

On the one hand, there have been some of my favourite new TV made in the past decade eg Life of Mammals, The Mighty Boosh, Lost; and also the continuation of existing favourites eg Time Team, Horizon,.
On the other hand, channels such as ITV seem to cosist entirely of 'bring a barrel' programming (ie if you bring a barrel, they'll happily scrape the bottom of it). THere's a lot more tosh around, but is that not merely because there are so many more channels, with so much more airtime to be filled? It's possible to detect cause for optimism, though; in the UK we've had more good comedy in the past ten years than we've had for a long time, news coverage has improved and there have been some excellent TV dramas (eg almost anything Stephen Poliakoff writes, especially the twin peaks of Shooting the PAst and Perfect Strangers which rank in the highest pantheon of productions). Even Channel 5 are no longer a pile of shit: their recent series The Buildings that MAde Britain (or something similar) was excellent, as are their art documentaries. And a special mention for Jonthan Meades, who when he presents Abroad In Britain manages to combime insight and humour splendidly.

Screamingskull, I think you want to live in America 40 years ago.
But yeah, communes sound cool. Politically speaking, I am closest to being an anarcho-communist, or some other form of Libertarian Socialism.
