Am I not paying enough attention? There are no icons, for me. There are influentials but they are not stellar. Not for a while now. Is there too much media? So much that it is impossible to have the high points of people in the past? You're drowned out very quickly after you first appear..

I think that in a time where just about anyone (with enough money) can create music and art of professional quality without any formal training or real effort or thought, the world of the arts has become over saturated with mass production. Avatar is kind of an example of this. Its not an original concept. It wasnt a good story, and the acting was decent. But damn, it looked good. Really good. And is one of the most acclaimed movies of the year. But 2 years from now, who will remember it?
Well, probably a lot of people just because of James Cameron. Point I'm getting at is that computers and digital media have ruined almost every form of art. Art isn't supposed to be user-friendly. What place does a poet have in a world of tweets and blogs and the like?

I semi agree. I dont think they've ruined it, because I welcome any and all new media for creation.. but there is definately saturation due to the easy accessibilityof the digital age. It is very common for anyone to become a semi household name, and yet there are so few epics.
I dont think a poet does have a place there.. Tweets and blogs have simply replaced looking and reading such artful things as the activity to do.
