Just finished reading "No Slam Dancing, No Stage Diving, No Spikes" an oral history of the legendary Punk venue City Gardens. I was SHOCKED that Sonic Youth NEVER played there, not even once. It's documents a time in our cultural history when things just didn't seem different, they WERE different. There WAS a quote unquote "underground" and you heard about all the cool bands via word of mouth. If you haven't checked it out, it's worth picking up...

They weren't mentioned in the book at all. I'd call that a glaring omission, unless the shows were completely nondescript. That's hard to believe though, every SY show I've ever seen has varied between great and EPIC. Total headscratcher...

The '87 show with Das Damen and Dinosaur (pre-Jr.) must have been beyond sick.
