All this talk about Wilco lately. So, the first thing in my head is the Uncle Tupelo cover of Atomic Power.

Sorry, I had to pick ten from an extensive list. Perhaps you could do a second poll?

Oh, oooops. I thought you just wanted people to yell some out.
I've always thought of Can's Mushroom from Tago Mago as being about nuclear war. I don't know. |

hip priest, nuclear war is actually a sun-ra cover.
hm... i like cities in dust by siouxie & the banshees. its reportedly about pompeii but that's too strong a metaphor to be ignored no? watch it before its'taken down! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLP35SNOSDY -- i'll vote for nuclear was as i own the ep & its great (almost all, i dont like the little children chorus, though it has a point) |

Yell out as many as you wish. It's probably better if you type them though, as I'm quite far away from you. There's a list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ut_nuclear_war

It is all-pervading. And it's certainly handy for 'list of songs about...' searches.

I have to admit I don't know most of those, but I can say, as one who served in the Air Force in W. Germany in the 1980s, that there is just something about the Nena song that so embodies that part of the Cold War. Seriously.

I voted for YLTs Nuclear War but I know you really meant Sun Ra so that's OK.

I think Breathing by Kate Bush could've been on the list too.

I don't know many of the songs, but Charles Mingus is my favourite artist out of those listed.
So he gets my vote. |

I picked '99 Luftballons' by Nena, simply because the german version is one of my favorite pop songs ever.

Perhaps favorite German pop song. Also, there are numerous cover versions that make this song most enjoyable. |

Off that list I voted for "World Destruction", but if the Sun Ra version of "Nuclear War" were there I'd go that way for sure. I like the Yo La Tengo version o.k., especially the Mike Ladd remix, but the original is the stroke of genius.
Thank you for not putting any Roger Waters songs on the list! |
