Especially work-related. You know my biggest Internet pet peeve? People who ignore legitimate e-mail.
I'm not talking about spam or unsolicited mail or anything like that. I'm talking about when you query a normal business or work associate and get absolutely no response in 24 hours or more during a normal work week. What is up with that? I think that is the height of rudeness. At least respond with, Got your message. Can't answer right now. I'll get back to you. Something. Anything. I make it a practice to answer every legitimate e-mail within 24 hours, sooner if I can. It just makes sense. To do otherwise in this day and age is sort of like giving somebody a blank look when you're having a face-to-face conversation and you don't say something. Okay. Rant over. Weigh in.

You've gone downhill after I made you poster of the day.
I read your post as this: "Especially work-related blablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablabla blablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablabla blablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablabla blablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablabla blablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablablabla" |

Since I'm old I kind of look at an email as a letter or phone call in voicemail - there may be a reason an immediate reply is necessary - you are collaborating on a project - but the usual email isn't really that important, right? I was out sick last week and some people wrote to me "Ah you're ignoring me" but no, I'm just ill.
I just don't think I need to drop everything and get back to you just to get back to you - no more than i feel obligated to return your chatty phone call. I have a life, and probably don't want to waste it on the phone. But I'm in the minority on that I'm sure. Seems most people waste their entire lives on their cells. So well named. "To do otherwise in this day and age is sort of like giving somebody a blank look when you're having a face-to-face conversation and you don't say something" This is normal behavior. these days- or one just changes the topic. |

No, I don't mean drop everything and answer me right this minute. Or even 8 hours from now. But I think it is less than courteous to ignore an email for longer than 24 hours.

Well I usually check my e-mails at night before bed. Then reply those that need to be replied.

I agree. I use email all day for work and it everybody I am emailing to just sits at their desk all day, so there is no excuse for it. Then I have to call and ask if they got my email. It's extremely redundant, but I have to. I would just call them in the first place, but I usually need something forwarded from them.

Yes. Yes oh yes. Fucking... people... with their faux important lives. I've been having a protracted 2-month conversation with some cunt via e-mail. It was left last week with me saying 'So, which do you want - me sorting out your life in fashion x, or sorting out your life in fashion y', to which the cunt responded 'ok'. What also annoys me is that I have to correspond with people by e-mail who I know full well to be earning three times my wage who are little short of illiterate. I realise that literacy is not of prime importance necessarily, but if you're trying to represent yourself, make some important decisions, you'd imagine that you'd want to get your point across in the most lucid and clear fashion. Apparently not. AND THEN (I'm nearly done with the rant)...AND THEN there's this fucking ABSOLUTE CUNT who always asks questions!!!!! like this!!!! asif an exclamation mark!!! is some sort of fucking surrogate comma!!!!!!!!!!!! which it isn't!!!!!!!!! is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She's always putting fucking smileys in her e-mails as well. Fucking cunt.

That's just it. I know that most people I'm emailing have almost identical work routines as mine--that is, they sit in front of their computer most of the day. Yes, they have meetings and assignments that take them away, but they are essentially anchored to the computer. There's no excuse not to answer for most of them, unless they're out sick. I've called some of these fuckers before and get the usual, "Oh, sorry, I was going to email you but forgot." Well, good is email then. How about if I just start calling you all the time then. Would that be better.

just put "free tits" on the subject line. guaranteed to receive immediate attention. if the intended recipient is a female, replace said line for "new liposuction technique". works every time. |

Ha! yeah. An attention grabber.
Of course, the people I'm trying to communicate with get paid at the end of the week regardless of whether they answer my email or not.

Yeah, usually it's state workers and such, I'm sorry to say. Though I have one non-profit stuffed shirt who's driving me nuts. He won't answer for days and then when he has a question, gets all weird if I don't reply in 15 minutes.

I'm heading out on my end of the day commute. 15 steps to the kitchen. Time to make dinner.
