Everytime this topic comes up with someone and i tell them i personally dont want to be an organ donor, they jump in my fuckin shit about it. I just dont feel that comfortable with it at the moment, having my dead body tampered with. I know, "its not like you need it" and "your possibly saving lives" and all that stuff but i just feel wierd about it. And i cant believe how people have such big heads about it, i mean who cares if i dont want to?
any thoughts? |

Caring about what happens to your body after you're dead can be seen as extremely unhelpful and selfish when viewed by people who need (or have loved ones who need) your corneas to see with or your internal organs to stay alive.
You know, because it is extremely selfish and unhelpful and the only reasons people can give for this position are "God told me not to" or "Idowanna." Which is your choice, of course. |

i feel wierd having my name on some list and someones life depending on me. I know its selfish and maybe a bit irrational but its like a death wish. Knowing my organs are going in a jar in the back of some freezer truck or something is kinda wierd. Im being stupid about it, ill sign up someday.

It's not a death wish, it's a death gift.
Payable upon death. The people "on the list" aren't waiting for YOU to die, they are waiting for SOMEONE compatible to die. It's the silver lining of death. It's still your choice, but if you also say you want to be cremated I'll smack you. You know, figuratively. |

Do you fear death so much that you hate to be reminded of it?

my only concern with this shit is that the corpse harvesters might be lined up by my bedside waiting for me to croak rather than give me proper medical attention.
but once dead-- who gives a fuck? it's meat, man. fucking MEAT. like a side of beef. barbecue it, make jerky, implant it on somebody else-- who gives a shit? but anyway, you do whatever you fucking want, don't let some preachy motherfucker get in your face & what not (as you say). tell them firmly: MIND YOUR OWN MOTHERFUCKING BUSINESS. no?? -- ps for a fun take on this shit watch almodovar's "all about my mother"-- genius shit. |

You're only 17, maybe you' re too young to understand what death really is... and it's normal. You should study the "emo precepts" to understand what it is.
No, forget that. |

Personally, I'm not all that attached to my organs. I've never even seen most of them and just assume their existence by educated signals (heart beat, stomach ache). I don't really feel ownership of them because I am them and if some of them fail (thus killing me) than what should hapen to the others? I grew up wearing my brother hand-me-down's so I kind of see organ donation like that. Except instead of growing out of them, I'm undone by them.

quite.
Want I meant is that I wouldn't be put off with donating an organ. Even if I was alive, I would donate an extra kidney or whatever to a family member or good friend. |

You all have made great points and helped me think about this. Its not something that i should feel wierd about. I fear death and it reminds me of that (like bradley said) It makes me imagine my body without "me"(or spirit) in it. But, like !@#$% said, it is fuckin meat, remnants from me, like shit and brains. I still fear someone letting me die when im old to give some young kid my heart or something(im horrible). Its probably safe to say i will be fine without it in the after-life. Its gonna rot in the ground anyway (good point crypto). Who cares what happens with it afterwards(black market, medical/scientifical stuff, etc.)?
So, i have changed my mind in about 4 hours, good job on that one thx. Next time i get my licensed renewed or whatever ill do it, but im definitley never going to be one of those preachy bastards that makes you feel like an idiot if you dont agree with them (BTW: im in no way reffereing to any of you)

You can stuff me when I die and keep me in your living room if you want?
I don't give two shits about what happens to by body when I die. If someone needs an organ and mine is compatible, they can knock themselves out. I'll be dead and really not caring.

I used to love coming up with silly ideas to do with my body after I died. But its easy to forget what your family and friends must be feeling when they see your now still corpse. I know death still affects me when I see it. While I seem to be more stoic about my own death, the death of others is immediately painful to me. I wouldn't want to aggitate my family even more with such post-existential fancies. So I care to an extent as I look forward to it now.

I know what you mean. Not that I've lost many people or anything, but if when my grandpa died they just tossed his body into a dumpster, I would be pissed. Or if someone were to play hacky sack with my old rats dead body, I would go ccrraazzyy haha. My body though, whateverrr...

Yep, death is always interesting/important to think about. (completely irrelevant but Jonh Frusciante's album "The Will To Death" is amazing but thats just me)
