From the ridiculous (Oi!) to the sublime.
But who deserves the title, "punk grand master". |

Well this is all highly subjective stuff...
In my opinion they all deserve merit apart from Talking Heads. But Richard Hell will always be my "Punk Grand Master"

Richard Hell is the ''Grand Master''. The entire movement in England came from what Malcom Mclaren brought back with him from the USA, namely the complete look and attitude of one Richard Hell.

I know isn't it? I'm not trying to start a battle but ''Punk'', the term, the music and lifestyle started in the US, the fashion started in the UK and some great music came out of the UK.
Fair enough? |

haha...I think its my nature to become defensive about punk rock origins, simply because the majority of people are ignorant and un-educated on this matter. So, forgive because I, for a brief moment, forgot I was speaking to some of the most knowledgeable and enlightened music enthusiasts available. And as a token of my sincerest apologies here's a little bit of something

the first punk song was I Got A Right by The Stooges from 1972 although the band themselves were more proto-punk like MC5
The Ramones were the grandmasters of course Neon Boys are coming in second regardless of dates |

The Stooges were just a heavy rock band, don't believe the hype. Television (with Richard Hell) pre-dated Voidoids, but Hell certainly had the punk image nailed. I'm not saying who had the first punk song for fear of an innocent pigeon buying the farm. |
