Evening all!
So what's good and bad about where you live, then? For me, Mellyville (Clapham) has this: Pro - Great pubs & restaurants, great park (Clapham Common), good transport links, generally relaxed atmosphere. Con - Drug dealers outside Melly Towers, feral kids, alcoholics/junkies always hassling for change, pathetic police "presence", cost of living is not cheap. And for all you good people?

Pro-Decent music scene given the size and location. Great music shopping. A very nice city in fall/winter or once the sun goes down in summer.
Con-Too hot during the summer/early fall/spring. Rednecks. High crime rate given the size of the city, nearly one armed robbery a week within 300 yards where I am.

short story. nashville decides to tear down all of the projects in downtown. gives them loads of money to move into my middle class neighborhood. yay! now its gangs, drug dealers, thug wannabes, illegal immigrants, and the usual middle class nitpickers. lost about 15 grand so far in equity

Rob Instigator stomping grounds (Houston TX)
Pros -world class Orchestra, Opera, Theatre, Art Museums, Ballet, art galleries galore. -Over 5,000 restaurants representing over 100 nationalities and ethnicities. -cheap drugs -Every kind of professional sport league (baseball, football, soccer, basketball, etc.) -demographics rule. 30% hispanic, 30% anglo, 29% african-american, 10% from nearly all asian countries. (we have a chinatown, a little korea a little vietnam, even a little thailand area!) -cost of living is very affordable. Lots of jobs. -very friendly to counter culture weirdos. gays, trannies, druggies, freaks, goths, nutburgers of all types, hippies, etc. all can go about their bisness pretty much hassle free. CONS -music scene is very fragmented. no centralized location for clubs and bars, so everyone has to drive to shows. Bands leave after getting large here to try to make it in Austin, better exposure for them there. -the city is so huge that car travel is the main option -the summers are HOT and humid (but the winters are mild and temperate and nice) -overlooked by many, who still think Houston is an overgrown cow-town. -many of the up and coming bands skip houston and play dallas and austin only. -huricanes

pro: i live in the "cool" part of town. everything is RIGHT here. all the good restaurants and venues are here. i also live where I-44 and I-235 connect, so it's easy to get ANYWHERE. my hood is seriously RIGHT there. (now everyone could find me if they wanted. bah.)
con: it's boring. |
