you know, the whole awesome power pop thing.
and I don't want "Weezer sucks" replies or "listen to any shitty pop punk band out right now". I just want some really awesome power pop that's in the vein of that specific Weezer sound! |

I always thought early Fountains of Wayne sounded very Weezer-like. A bit weedier mind.
And what about The Rentals who also sound, not surprisingly, like Weezer. Neither band has done anything as good as Weezer's first album. But then again, that record is pretty much unbeatable for power pop. |

Try Ozma. They sound more like Weezer than Weezer themselves, if that's possible.

Yep, Ozma is a great suggestion. "More Weezer than Weezer" is right.
Personally, I LOVE Screeching Weasel and a lot of that would be up your alley (though a lot is pop punk, they have some "power pop" stuff as well). For Science. Some Sloan stuff, some Teenage Fanclub stuff, some New Pornographers stuff, Oxford Collapse, Straw... |

Yeah. I can probably better reccomend good power pop/punk stuff rather than "stuff like Weezer".
Since he's just looking for stuff like Weezer's Blue Album, I think Ozma and the Rentals are definitely the best pick. |

I haven't heard Weezer's Blue Album, but if you're looking for some decent power pop defiently try the albums "Grand Prix", "Bandwagonesque" and "Songs From Northern Britain" by Teenage Fanclub.

I've only heard Weezers later stuff and thought it was shite, but I've heard good things about the Blue Album, so I'll check it out for sure.
Alcoholiday and Star Sign are my faves on Bandwagonesque. |

Well, I'm a Weezer fan. So I even like the "bad albums." BUT Blue Album and PINKTERTON are really really great.

I like them a lot. They're a bit more technical than Weezer, that's what first got me into them. A lot of people mainly know them for their tetris theme cover. |

Double donkey disc and spending time on the borderline are two fucking amazing albums.
rock n roll part 3 is good in it's own right, but they were younger and that's probably the most weezer sounding one. They had some really good songs on that one too, I think natalie portman stands out! talking about ozma on a sonic youth message board when only a few of your friends in your hood listen to sonic youth and none of them have heard of ozma? priceless. |
