Looks like a celebrity romp without much weight, other than "the great Genesis P-Orridge" who was friends with Brion Gysin. And really, to appreciate Burroughs, you need to understand Gysin. But more than watching videos of celebrities talking telling their Lawrence stories, one needs to read and practice extensively the cutups. And smoke lots of kif. It would be much more useful to just see straight, unedited interviews with WSB instead of the mass culture celebrity's stories of how they met WSB.

Way to weigh in on a film you haven't seen. I did see it and I thought it was a well-rounded portrait of Burroughs including a lot of rare footage and, yes, interviews with artists who worked with him and were influenced by him, alongside unknowns like a young hustler who knew him intimately. The soundtrack is very good, but there is no new music on it.

The best Burroughs documentary was made a long long time ago, it's called simply BURROUGHS.

for what else is the internet good? Quote:
you paint a more interesting picture here than the description - but there seems to be as small industry based around people who met Burroughs once or twice or claim to be influenced by him. Read yesterday in the Times peter orlovsky just last week passed away in Vermont from lung cancer, OG Beat poet...I think thats it, they're all gone now. |
