once i was baby sitting this kid and the little bastard threatened to call 911. apparently he did, he just hung up right away. his mother got home and while we were sitting casualy two cops walk in and tell the kid not to fuck around and he starts crying. usually they take that shit pretty seriously

i was reading about this last night. it's a shame that no one will be able to sue the city on behalf of the 6 year old boy, because there's a law that protects the city of Detroit from being sued in such a manner, apparently.

yeah, they said 1/4 of calls are prank calls. Actaully I just got a prank call here no more than five minutes ago.
We had some 911 stands in a park nearby. Kids would press the button so the cops stopped coming. |

Holy shit, I just saw this story on the news. That's really unacceptable, I thought they were required to respond to every call even if they thought it might be a prank. Anyway, that's really sad.

Where I live they send an officer out to every 911 hangup/whatever. Must be Detroit.
I'm pretty sure 6 year olds are capable of making prank phone calls. My cousin got in trouble for it one time when we were about that age.

that's so very fucked.
however if the cops weren't able to sort through the bullshit a lot more people would die. here's my take: every prank call to 911 gets a fine of $1000. that pays for improved services and reduces the rate of prank calls by oh a whole lot. of course a new prank would be to start dialing 911 from people's phones just to get them in shit. i once caught an asshole making long distance calls from my phone. the fucker. |

long story short: at a party and the house has a fax machine so someone (not me) decided to call 999 to see what would happen. 10 minutes later 15, yes 15 policemen in boiler suits come hurtling through the door. the person who called was not to be found.
