where humans are now living in instead of thinking that people wil be interested in politic information or other information it is more simpel because humans are indoctorinated to the everyday use of money as i have seen the news today that art is been stolen in greece, afganistan and syria and now as we speak is on it's way to private artcollects you can say all goes fast when this history needs to be recorded to give a clear image of happenings during these times to the next generations that going to be on school ( who now start to learn on tablets ) this all interest me because i find the artworld weak to extreem weak to be clear what position they take on how to look at art and the ethics of art trade awarnes support to the artworld if it is not it becomes art destructive and tons of money will go into arms, boms, indocterination of hate and what then explain those AGAIN with art there is no time get stupid by it i keep try'ing and try'ing till the artworld reacts and becomes clear in who they are and what the basic is the new day already began and many more days will follow |

Robert Hughes is a bit of an institution. I remember seeing repeats of his series, Shock of the New, when I was growing up and it was probably the first serious discussion of art that I'd seen on TV (or, given my age, probably anywhere).
You can see most of the full episodes on youtube now. They still hold up. Hughes would inevitable give way to more chummy, down-with-the-kids presenters but I love his rather po-faced aloofness. Ep 1 of Shock of the New. |

I know him more through his books but have started watching some of his TV stuff via Youtube.
Very unfashionable presenting style. I suppose only BBC4 would potentially find room for him if he were still making programmes. Also, could you change your avatar, it's very disturbing. |

this exactly Sometimes I'm insanely jealous of the Brits. I'm not sure they understand how good they have it. I mean, there are some British people who are sick of Stephen Fry, and Americans still haven't figured out what to do with him. Can you imagine QI in the States? Even on PBS? |

Incidentally, Hughes was Australian but lived in the UK from the 1965.

He's seriously outdated but in a really nice way, I think. I miss that quite condescending tone. Alan Wicker was another one. Borderline unfriendly. Quote:
Haha. Assuming you're serious. OK |

You can watch the whole series of "The Shock of the New" here
Robert Hughes (1938-2012) A classic eight part documentary that offers a comprehensive view on the development of modernist art in its cultural context. It focusses minly on painting and sculpting but pays some attention to architecture as well. The documentary is presented and narrated by the art critic Robert Hughes, whose views on modernism have left an unmistakable stamp on the film. It was originally aired by the BBC.

Julie Burchill calls him "A stupid person's idea of what a clever person is" I like Stephen Fry, but i think theres alot to be said for that view.
