This has been done many times in the past. SY shouldn't cover songs.

Why not? They've covered songs in the past! I have a whole cd that's just SY covering a whole bunch of other people's songs. It sounds great! They bring new life to already great songs! If anything, SY should cover more songs. I'd love to hear them cover pop songs. I'd love to hear what they'd do to more mainstream pop tunes. I'll bet they would totally tear them apart and make them sound a thousand times better.

Their cover of "Slave to the Grind" is remarkable.

I posted a topic on the old forum asking for suggestions for bands for SY to share a split single with, with each band covering one of the other's songs.
My suggestion then was that SY should cover Girls Aloud's "Love Machine", and that still stands. Ladies you're damn right You can't read a man's mind We're living in two tribes And heading for war Nobody's perfect We all gotta work it But fellas, we're worth it So don't break the law Your call's late, big mistake You've gotta hang about in limbo for as long as I take Next time, read my mind and I'll be good to you We're gift-wrapped kitty cats We're only turning into tigers when we gotta fight back Let's go, Eskimo Out into the blue Come take my hand Understand that you can You're my man and I need you tonight Come make my dreams Honey hard as it seems Loving me is as easy as pie, I I'm just a love machine Feeding my fantasy Give me a kiss or three And I'm fine I need a squeeze a day Instead of this negligee What will the neighbours say This time I've been going crazy while you sleep Searching for a language That the two of us can speak so Whistle through your story, make it real And I'll breathe underwater 'Cos I like the way it feels... C'mon, don't you wanna hear Kim sing those words? |

Even better, I know Thurston played Smoke On the Water once. It was on one of the shows in the live recording sharing thread thing, I think. He's so good... |

Personally I think their Ciccone Youth cover of 'INTO THE GROOVE' is so friggin brilliant. I love shit like that, where songs are almost unrecognizable from the original.
I'd really love to hear them play classical music, though. i think that would be really awesome. like a slow satie gymnopedie or like some crazy stravinsky or something. yes, that's exactly it, stravinsky by sonic youth, how fucking awesome would that be? |
