Arthur Magazine RIP

"Hippies, stoners, and folk freaks the world over wept today as it was announced that Arthur magazine will close its doors after five glorious years of delivering discourse and pretty pictures on art, music, and more to our marijuana-stained hands. As confirmed by editor Jay Babcock, Arthur will cease operations effective immediately.

Arthur, printed bi-monthly in oversize format and available free at the savvier venues, bookstores, and record shops near you, set up shop in October 2002. In addition to publishing articles, interviews, artwork, and more on/by Thurston Moore, Arthur C. Clarke, Spike Jonze, Devendra Banhart, Will Oldham, Joanna Newsom, Joe Strummer, and others-- and playing a vital role in the freak folk boom of a few years back-- Arthur also hosted/curated a number of festivals, including Arthur Nights in the magazine's home city of Los Angeles.

Additionally, Arthur founded Bastet as its publishing imprint, which went on to release discs from Sunn O))) and Arthur's own Million Tongues Festival, as well as what's arguably the definitive freak-folk compilation, the Devendra Banhart-curated Golden Apples of the Sun. No word yet whether Arthur will continue hosting events or publishing via Bastet, but Pitchfork wishes the best for all involved with the adventurous publication."

Dear Arthur Friends,
As of Friday, Feb. 23rd, Arthur Magazine is on indefinite hiatus. We at Lime Publishing, the current publisher, had been working toward transitioning operations to a new publisher since the start of the year. A breakdown in negotiations this past week pertaining to Lime's 50% share in the magazine led to an unfortunate and perplexing announcement that "Arthur is Dead."
This poorly-timed message was sent out, against explicit wishes of Lime Publishing, to the public before the staff, advertisers or contributors were notified. It was disheartening to receive distressed phone calls from dedicated people in the Arthur community, who devoted their time and creative energy on the magazine.
The flood of calls and emails we've been receiving from friends and readers is heartwarming and reassuring, especially after what has been a difficult time. The support we've seen is tantamount to the strength of the Arthur community. Thank you to staff, contributors, distributors, readers and advertisers for all your dedication. We will post Thank You's on the Arthur site to demonstrate just how many people have contributed in so many ways to Arthur and made it the celebrated paper it is.
The current hiatus may still lead to future opportunities for Arthur, but for the time being we are paring down operations. The website will be kept up as an online store for back issues and other merchandise. An archive of all our Arthur issues as PDFs will also be available for people to access.
Shortly we will be sending notifications to subscribers for options on cancelled subscriptions.

I bought Laris's 50 percent interest in the magazine thanks to the efforts of family and friends.

Now I own 100% and am moving forward with all Arthur activities as quickly as possible.

see thats very weird because i see people posting "oh so glad you're back" on the comments but i see no mention of it anywhere.

either they're shitting us or it's an april fool's joke that went past its expiration date, Or it was posted & then taken down for some reason because i don't see anything anywhere that says what you posted.
