WILMINGTON, Calif. --
gunman was hospitalized in critical condition Friday following an officer-involved shooting in Wilmington that happened just 30 yards from where police fatally wounded another man during a gunbattle some three hours earlier, authorities said. Video | Images No officers were hurt in either shooting, the Los Angeles Police Department reported. Several rounds of gunfire rang out at about 11:40 p.m. Thursday just one block east of East L Street and Watson Avenue, the location where LAPD officers were investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 9 p.m., according to police. The gunman, whose name was not released, was wounded and was hospitalized in critical condition, the LAPD reported. Fox11 reported that the man is a 48-year-old grandfather who was recently released from a hospital after treatment for depression. LAPD Lt. Ruben De La Torre told a Newsreel camera crew that the shooting occurred 30 yards from the site of the first incident. Authorities did not immediately say what prompted it. Following that shooting, officers surrounded a home on East L Street and Drumm Avenue where several people were told to exit, one at a time, with their hands on their head, according to camera crews. Police continued searching for evidence in and nearby the evacuated home several hours after the shooting, Newsreel reported. In the first shooting, which occurred at about 9 p.m. Thursday, a gunman on a bicycle exchanged gunfire with two LAPD anti-gang unit officers, De La Torre said. Two officers from the LAPD's South Bureau Gang Detail were driving east on L Street and approaching Watson Avenue in a patrol car when they spotted a male on a bicycle with "some minor bicycle equipment violations," De La Torre said. When the officers stopped the bicyclist to investigate, the cyclist drew a handgun and "fired a couple of rounds, which resulted in an OIS," De La Torre said. The wounded gunman, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to a hospital, where he died, De La Torre said. http://www.knbc.com/news/15593658/detail.html

this shit is ridiculous, the people here in los angeles have just accepted the military occupation of our city by the police force. these motherfuckers are well-armed, and there is at least an Officer Involved Shooting a week, most often for no reason. http://www.parc.info/client_files/LA...l%20report.pdf last year, there were 47 Officer Involved Shootings, 27 people were shot, by the LAPD alone. There are something like 40 local police departments in Los Angeles County. The 27 people were shot were from the LAPD alone, if you combine all the agencies in this county the number jumps up towards a hundred.
