Hey,
I am a big fan of everything SY (of course), and I am traveling from Canada to NY from August 10-15th. I was wondering if anyone could help me with locations of record stores specializing in more avant-garde/outer limits type stuff, interesting venues, any good shows during that time, bars, any anything else remotely cool around the city. All I really know about is the knitting factory, and the major art galleries and museums. I thought this would be an alright place to ask. Thanks! -Jeremy |

Is bleeker street records run by a bunch of holier-than-thou jerk-offs or what? |

when i went to bleecker street it wasn't so bad, standard prices on stuff and good selection.
now bleecker BOB on the other hand... other good stores: other music st mark's place in general hospital productions there's another one in greenwich which name escapes me right now, that one was nice too. it's actually near-ish bleecker bob's. i'm leaving for ny this wednesday, i can tell you some stuff happening this month but since i won't be in august i haven't looked for anything. |

that's it. two years ago, i asked the clerk at bleecker bob's for some sonic youth vinyl and he told me he had sister for $40, it was kinda more of what i had to spend (let alone for a single record) and when i asked him if he had anything else he told me to look it up myself but that i probably wouldn't find anything and yeah, i didn't find anything else. i did get a cool napalm death patch there, though. |

i thought bleeker street records wasn't so bad. Cheap records and Cd's and a huge selection! So what if the people that work there love themselves a little too much.

it's not self-love-- that is a healthy thing. it's that they are useless asswipes that treat customers like shit and your purchase is paying their salary.
kim's has everything they have & more & better. |
