That's well and good, but I'm failing to see what's to be surprised about.

i read that too, and was very surprised. pitchfork usually rips something like that apart. an 8.2 is probably the exact same score id give it.

Iunno. I just can't be too surprised about this. They did give SYR4 an 8.5 after all and that one seems way more prone to be picked apart than SYR8.

I dont' get it. I mean. It's not like I actually CARE what any magazine thinks. But I'll certainly read about a subjec that interests me. Pfork has a lot of readers, whether the readers agree with their views or not.

Yeah, that's why I was surprised at this review. Though they did give Daydream Deluxe like a 9 or a 10.

pitchfork rates albums based on "hipness" if its a classic album of the genre w/ critical acclaim then it will get a high rating.
pitchfork is for "hipsters" that need their music "spoon-fed". nuff said. |

In a sense, I kind of feel like anti-Pitchforkers are just as snobby as the hipsters who swear by Pitchfork.
Personally if its regarding a subject I'm interested in (SYR8 perhaps) I'll read any article, review in any mag regardless, and then form my own opinion. |

Yes essentially it's the music reviewer's porogative to give their opinion, if they think it deserves 0.0 or 9.0 then they're entitle to say that - as long as they're reviewing the MUSIC, and nothing else. This is why I was so angered by certain reviews not reviewing Primal Scream's Beautiful Future but Bobby Gillespie. In my view, anyone who turns to Pitchfork etc. for musical guidance is nothing short of an idiot, it is subjective opinion afterall, and the legions of hipsters who scorn and feel threatened by Pitchfork are forgetting the first rule of musical elitism: everyone is entitle to your opinion.

thats the same way as I do, and for that reason I really enjoyed reading the review, even if it would have ripped SYR8 apart. but I am like a sponge when it comes to reviews. btw the pitchfork search functions suck big times, or is it just me, not able to use it properly? cant find anything with it |
