I don't know what your drink of choice is. But if it's beer, next time drink some quality craft brews. In my experience (past--I don't drink to excess much anymore) there are no headaches due to the absence of nasty byproducts. You will feel a bit tired but otherwise, no worries.

You know what the presdident and CEO of Sam Adams brewing company says he does, so he does not get drunk or have hangovers the next day? He stirs up a packet of baker's yeast with a 1/4 cup of water, and drinks that before drinking alcohol.
He has to sample beers all day and go to beer tasting events where everyone wants to buy him a pint and he cannot afford to actually get drunk, so he drinks the yeast. He states that this was taught to him by a scientists. The yeast will immediately go about processing the alcohol and sugars in whatever you drink and will therefore cause less of it to go into your bloodstream. I am allergic to alcohol so I cannot give this a proper try, but if anyone from the SY Gossip forum does, please let me know the outcome!

here is a recipe for my favorite bloody mary. it's the best bloody mary because it's the classic recipe (no celery salts, etc) and it's easy to make.
in a glass pitcher put some big ice chunks. big so they don't melt right away. add 6 oz vodka (that's 3/4 cup. or 4 jiggers. or roughly 175-180ml.) the juice of one lemon (yellow lemon) 1 tablespoon (or 3 teaspoons. or about 15ml) worcestershire sauce (good luck pronouncing that) 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper shake it, don't break it. no, just give it a good stir so it all bathes together. now here is wehre it gets tricky: add 16 oz or 2 cups or 1 pint or a bit under 1/2 litre tomato juice. stir again. nothing tricky about the stirring but it's the choice of tomato juice that makes all the difference. i get organic tomato juice in a glass bottle with nothing added. canned juices are a different beast & taste different-- i don't like those. but they can work, but they are too salty so check your salt. pour in a glass, garnish with lime wedges (the green limes), chug at will. -- alternative to this is teh bloody bull. it's an old man drink: 1 part vodka 2 parts beef broth 2 parts tomato juice, salt, pepper, and a small squeeze of lemon. shake it all in a tumbler with ice. there you go. |

also, get some protein and carbs in you the morning of a hangover. b12 vitamins and potassium too. make a fried egg sandwich and a banana on the side, if you can.

worcestershire is pronounced
"wooster-shuh" or "wooster-sheer" depending on your regional accent (i say the former) (as in jeeves and wooster - i appreciate this is another very british example but my experiences in america tell me that people know what this is - you can look it up) although most people call worcestershire sauce "lea and perrins" after the brand or in sheffield (&yorkshire in general) it's "henderson's" (after henderson's relish)

yes! it makes a nice pitcher that serves 4 big tumblers. i haven't done the numbers for an individual recipe, and that's okay because we're 2 and can't have just one (it's too tasty). usually we drink it all morning while watching bad movies on lazy day (saturday or sunday, depending). the vodka doesn't have to be expensive btw-- i've done taste tests, and the tomato and spices and citrus acid etc destroy any subtlety and make smoothness irrelevant. so i make it with smirnoff & save the tito's for where it counts. i knew about the wooster part but never the end ha ha. i suspected something like the shire from the hobbits but i see that no. thanks! in spanish it's known as salsa inglesa ("english sauce"). |
