Get an Ipod. A lot of people talk a lot of shit on it, but it is of my opinion that they just take shitty care of theirs. I've had mine for 1 year and 4 months and it works fine. They work just fine.
The rest of them are kind of awkward to use, but I don't think so with the Ipod. I haven't checked out the Zune though. |

Get an ipod, I have had mine for almost two years and it is still good. I agree with Alex most don't know how to care for their ipods. I am thinking of getting a bigger one. Maybe a thirty gig kind.

I have the thirty gig. I love it. I've only filled 16 gigs of it, so I should be able to keep it around for another year (probably more at the rate I'm buying music).

yeah, I don't think an eighty gig is good for me, I will have a vast empty memory on it. And I have not been buying music, that much. |

does anybody know if those ipod copies play lossless formats?
well, probably not i suppose. thing about ipods and zunes and all that crap is that they are all too expensive from what i'm willing to pay. any alternatives to those players? i'm looking for big capacity music players 30GB+ |

i would get an 80gb ipod then you can fit about 75 albums at full cd quality more than you ever need in your pocket at once, my ipod is 4 yrs old and never had an issue battery life is still good and when i do change it i will do it my self.

i've got an 80 gig and it's great. i had an old 40gig from 2004, but i sold it to one of my bandmates. to this day, it still works fine, though.
i'd recommend ipod over zune. if you're gonna get one, though, you might want to try and wait it out a bit longer. rumor on the street is that apple is working on a 6G ipod.

Absolutely go for an iPod. I have the 30giga type and it works good enough. The battery life should be a bit better I guess, but all in all, I'm satisfied.

I'm happy with my 8 GB nano filled with high bitrate mp3s(actually I don't feel the need to walk around/cycle around/take train/take buses with lossless albums, to fully appreciate them I'd need a portable amp and good closed headphones...and to store the ones I have all lossless I'd need an HD with capacity---> infinity ), I heard many good things about Kenwood and Cowon players (sound quality-wise), dunno how much they cost. Try to search a little.
Honestly I think that "magic wheel" on the ipod is one of the best things ever, I dunno if I could re-learn to use a thing with more than ONE proper buttons. have a look at this forum (really interesting stuff, maybe even a bit too audiophile-oriented in a sense) http://www.head-fi.org/ and for the ones willing to make their ipod much better (for a quite high price) http://www.redwineaudio.com/iMod.html

get something you can hack and play anything on it isnt' attached to an OS and doesn't "digital rights manage" your ass. there's the creative zen and toshiba gigabit in addition to teh zune mentioned. nothing i can find tops the 80GB the ipod has though. however i hate ipods, just because. |

30 gig ipod.
best thing I've ever purchased. it's always with me! I use a 500 gig external drive to keep music on so that it's easy to keep my playlists fresh. |

yeah, man! 80gigs is where it's at! mind you, i haven't filled up the entire thing yet, just 50gigs or so, but it'll probably hit 60 before the end of the year. i buy an insane amount of music and like to have access to it at all times.

i agree that mp3 players have degraded the appreciation of the album. but most people don't have that appreciation regardless, anymore. the reason i have such a large capacity ipod is because i enjoy albums in their entirety and can't stand ripping 1 or 2 songs from an album just for a jog or whatever.
