Looks like Fopp are close to going under despite the denials of it's bossman. |

we are supposed to get a fopp in our town center!, this sucks. At the moment the only place we have to but Cd's is woolworths.
If you want actual cd/record shops you have to go into the city. |

Ah crap, I hope they don't go under. I used them a fair amount for cheap CDs. Another cheapo CD store in Soho ("Mister CD") closed down this week, unfortunately.

In the US we lost both Musicland (Sam Goody) and Tower Records in the past two years. They were major blows to the music and video industries.

We used to have a massive Tower Records in the city. That went in 2003 and was replaced with an Urban Outfitters.

Yeah Fopp is pretty good, although I use it mainly for books. I go to Spillers for my music (oldest record store in the world)

i go to these record shops in this order for my CD shopping, if i really can't find something in one of the indie record shops in the city will then go to the big stores, but most of the time they won't have it either.
1) Tempest 2) Swordfish 3) HMV 4) Virgin |

Tempest is a fantastic record shop, Birimingham is really lucky to have that- I like the scuzziness of it, and all the dodgy lads going upstairs for their hard house. They didint seem to turn stock over very fast though- massive discount section, which was always attractive to me. |

Fuck, so many stores are closing. Sam the Record Man in Toronto just closed it's doors, and that place s a fucking Toronto landmark. Shame... They're leaving the giant, flashing records up as remembrance, however (if you know the place, you know what I mean)

Yeah tower here had a good selection of Sonic Youth cd's, also sometimes they would stock rare albums that would be impossible to find. But there is this other indie Store I go to, that has a good selection of cd's and Lp's.

The one in Reading is closing down, i dont know how its not prospered because theres a market for people who want to get stuff that aint. £16 in HMV. I just hope the indies around me dont suffer too, i got my first SY CD from an indie 4 odd years ago, and i remember when Our Price snuffed it too.

We make a point of going to Fopp whenever we're in Manchester; I've bought loads of nice cheap stuff (music and 'world cinema' (I hate that term).
Cheap, interesting, good atmosphere. It would be a sad day if Fopp were to go.
