I saw it today with my Dad after gifts and brunch while others stayed behind to work on dinner.

It was really good. Juno and Jason' Bateman's character (the prospective adoptive father) sort of form a bond because they both like guitar and horror movies, so he has her listen to his favorite song: Sonic Youth's version of Superstar.

Later in the movie she says in anger "I bought a Sonic Youth album and it was nothing but noise." (Odd because in the movie Raw Power is her favorite album.) That gave me a good laugh.

It is a really cute movie though, I'd recommend it.

Really? I heard it was bland from a not-so-good friend of mine. He said it was "dry" like Little Miss Sunshine... I loved Little Miss Sunshine.

Well, thanks for convincing me. I'm seeing it.

It was not nearly as dry as Little Miss Sunshine. I thought it was much better. It's cute and quirky but never over the top. I'd put it more in the league of "Me, You, and Everyone We Know", "Rusmore", "The Squid and the Whale" and "Ghost World." It isn't incredibly similar to those movies, but definitely fits right in with the same wave of filmmaking so to speak.

I love dry humor. Life Aquatic was on TV the other day.

I don't know, man. I haven't seen it yet, but it is getting a lot of hype. I don't know if I trust it. The hype seems to be perpetuated by the success of Little Miss Sunshine, which I don't like for some reason (I loved LMS, but the fact that it is going to be popular, slightly because of LMS).

I'll probably see it.

It is nothing like LMS. It is good on its own accord. Very good funny ass hell. One of the best comedies this year.

That is good to hear from someone who has actually seen it. Because a bunch of people I know won't shut up about it even though they haven't seen it.

Sort of how this one girl won't shut up about how she 'loves' The Darjeeling Limited but hasn't seen it. Grr. Shit annoys me. But I will not let it ruin Juno for me.

Can't wait to see it (it's not playing at the big theatre, and it's not yet playing at the smaller theatre...)
It looks fucking hilarious, and just all around good.

And the Darjeeling Limited was brought up. My favourite movie of the year, I was looking orward to it for soooo long, and it completely lived up to expectations (if not KILLED them). Wes Anderson is definitely my favourite living director. Maybe even unliving, too. His movies always strike a certain chord that nothing else can touch.

Yes, you did. I saw her on a little promo bumper spot for the Sundance Channel. Diablo Cody talks for a few seconds and a clip is shown.

the plot seems to go
Cera loads bun into the Juno girl's oven
pregnant girl offers baby for adoption
girl develops crush on prospective adoptive father Bateman
further dramedy ensues
prospective adoptive mother Jennifer Garner gets jealous
(great casting btw b/c that alias chick isn't all that likeable of a personality)
etcetera

Thanks for letting me know about the Sonic Youth references. It's a pity that, in the end, they get poo-pooed as "all noise" though.

That's basically the plot. The Garner/Bateman stuff is a bit different than what it might look like. Garner is unlikable at first, but you start to respect her later.

I didn't take the SY thing too seriously, because I'm assuming she got the wrong album for a first time listener.

I saw it. It was a good movie, but I was a little let down. I thought it was going to be better.

Also the friggin' audience pissed me off. Why do people pay $8 to see a movie and laugh at the stuff we've already seen in the previews? There were hardly any laughs otherwise.

My friend and I practically died at the part where they talked about Juno's friend Leah and how she liked teachers. And you here her say "Oh I totally love Woody Allen." I don't know if it was intentional or not but all we could think of is how Allen married his adopted daughter.

I also felt that it tried to hard to be quirky. It didn't bug me that much, but still. I guess the way the teenagers spoke just was stupid. Because no one I know talks that way, and she was supposed to be a junior in the movie. So in that respect I thought it was dumb. It didn't take quirkiness far enough. The jargon just came of as stupid since it was all still grounded in reality. If it had gone farther to make everything a little more strange it would have worked.

This is a phenomenon I will never understand. I mean sure, to an extent we all make up our minds about movies before we even see them (or don't see them), which on one hand helps us save money instead of seeing shit we probably won't like, or on the other might ruin our moviegoing experience if we try too hard to like or dislike something because we have these expectations that need to be met. But yeah, judging from the way certain people I know talk about this movie, it's like they are already eagerly awaiting their first post-Juno visit to Facebook so they can add it to the top of their Favorite Movies section. I don't get it. I understand the thrill you get from seeing a fantastic movie, but not when you have to decide all of that beforehand. Personally I like to be caught a little off guard. Like after Spider-man 3. Which was dumb as hell but nevertheless ranks among the likes of Space Jam, The Golden Compass, and Harry Potter 5 (the third time) when it comes to my all-time favorite/most memorable moviegoing experiences.
