The Stooges have announced plans to reunite their surviving Raw Power lineup and perform the album in its entirety. The band will be performing under the "Iggy and Stooges" moniker which was the name that Raw Power was released under. Frontman Iggy Pop insists that "The Stooges" as a band no longer exist due to the sad death of guitarist/bassist Ron Asheton in January.
Three of the four original members of the Michigan band re-formed as the Stooges in 2003 and toured regularly for five years, including in Australia, but they played nothing from Raw Power because the band's line-up changed after its first two albums, the Stooges and Funhouse. When the band became Iggy and the Stooges to make their third album in 1973, guitarist Ron Asheton was replaced by James Williamson and Asheton played bass. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au...-16947,00.html

fun. Gotta love how Iggy's redo of Raw Power for the CD reissue is almost too loud to listen to.

Does this mean he'll be touring "Lust for Life" when he's 80?? The man is still inhumanly amazing.

Isn't Williamson a corporate executive or something like that these days? I wonder how long it's been since he's actually played any of that material... Guess we'll see. This is fucking awesome.

Given the economy and how Sony's doing, I'd say going back to the Stooges is probably a deft career move. |

I suppose Ron's death has erased any real possibility of them going into the studio again. I'd have liked to have seen them have another go at an album after the disappointment of the last effort.
I'm physically incapable of having any ill-feelings towards The Stooges. I wish them luck in all they do. |

IT might not be a good idea to do something like that. Getting someone in for posteriety is not always the best idea. It is serving the music or is it a cash grab?
It just sux that this happned when the band had come into to its own..

When it comes to the Stooges, cash grab is ok. So long as Albini isn't involved. They can appear as guests on American Idol for all i care. So long as they get paid.

When will these classic rock bands learn to leave well enough alone?

Of course GMKU has a point, and I'm sure he'd be the first to shudder at how the Stones have descended into parody. I tend to think its the right of the greatest bands to do just that though. If the stones can do it, if the pistols can do it, then I see no reason why the stooges (the greatest rock band america ever produced, let's not forget) shouldn't do it as well. Greatness is never fully realised after all until those responsible for it are able to shit on it from a great height.
