Who do you trust and who do you really dislike?

I trust: Roger Ebert (to an extent)-Yes, he does give good scores to crappy movies (ei Scorpion King), but he isn't afraid to state why he likes it. Plus I like his examinations of the films in his "Classic Films" columns.

James Berardellini

I dislike: Steve Rhodes (some internet critic)- Some Bush worshipping conservative whose bias shows. Any movie that has an environmental or anti Iraq war message he hates.

Ebert isn't bad, in fact he is god-like in many ways. However, I think his assessments of The Tin Drum and Léon, to name two, are whack.

I prefer critics who can convince me to take certain genre films seriously (Action, Horror, Erotica, etc). These days I have little interest in seeing what is considered a contemporary Art-House film: talky character-driven Indies that focus so intently on being realistic that they forget to be Cinematic. So with that said, I trust the amateur film critics of DVD Maniac (for their opinions on Horror), Mike Kitchell (for his opinions on arthouse/erotica/horror/), as well as some of the posters on his Blogroll.

Léon is also fabulous, yet he had a few gripes about it.
