study for 45-50 minutes & rest for 10-15 rather than being a zombie for 4 hours

learn to do summaries

eat fish, apples, cheese, nuts-- they are brain foods

--

know your own learning style -- do you need generalities before specifics? do you need the specifics before you need general principles? are you a visual learner? do you learn better to what you hear than what you read?

--

get a study buddy/ study group

--

learn to meditate

--

learn to use your unconscious to learn. read before you go to sleep. i used to solved math problems while sleeping.

I learn more from reading. I am not an auditory learner. I need specifics before generalities, or else I won't know what the hell it is all about.

see i learn more by reading than by listening, so i don't need to tape lectures; on the other hand however i need generalities before i get the specifics, or else i don't know where to "place" the facts.

a good technique when reading then is to do some pre-reading before tackling a text, i.e., skim thru it before you actually start going word-by word. that gives you an idea of what the thing is about & lets you absorb everything easy. same thing with going over the table of contents before reading a book.

AFTER you read, you go back & review & highlight the main points.

another funny fact: short-term memory becomes long-term memory after, uh, i don't remember. but it's good to do a review within 20 minutes of finishing. then look at your notes 8 HOURS AFTERWARDS. that really locks it into place.

yes. avoid sugar & caffeine actually, which hamper memory. maybe a little green tea is good, it wakes you without the jitters.

the meditation i recommended because it helps with anxiety. an anxious mind can't absorb for shit. whereas in a proper brainwave you can recall lots of stuff. i kid you not.

& don't be afraid of highlighters. but apply the strategy above & things will be easy to memorize.

also learn to "chunk" things instead of trying to absorb everything in a big lump. in other words divide & conquer.

hm hm what else. i used to eat sardines & inexpensive caviar ($5) before exams (fish eggs then). sardines have i think hydergine? i forget (ha ha). <-- yes actually. caviar is rich in phosphorus --> atp (not all tomorrow's parties ha ha,). for vegetarians, yogurt + lentils have phosphorus. bad oils transfats lard deep fried food & RANCID fats make you stupid cos the brain is basically fat. you want nut oils, flax oil, fish oil, lots of omega 3s.

oh, one more thing for music fans-- years ago i read this book that claimed that SLOW baroque music has the property of inducing certain brain states in which learning comes easy. try to test the hypothesis. people have also claimed that listening to mozart can make you perform better during exams. i do not support nor deny these claims-- im merely quoting.

best wishes.

I always study right before I have a test. That way, it's all fresh in my brain, and I can just forget everything after it's over.

This is true. I buckled down in Honors American History II. I was always studying for something in that class, even weeks in advance. I read everything that we covered in the textbook, and read every page of every book that we had to review. It was my favorite class that year, and one of the best I've ever been in.

I always liked to listen to music or watch a ball game while I'm studying because it helps to dilute the "suck factor."

That's exactly what I do.

I always plan to study but I just keep putting it off until it's the night before the test. When I try to study, I just end up listening to music and I stay up all night and I don't even study. I just get to class early and study for 10 minutes and I end up getting a C or B or maybe an A. I can't remember a time when I have actually studied. Just slack off, it doesn't matter. When I started college, I was happy that I was going to start fresh but I just keep doing what I did in high school.

Something always distracts me when studying. Its annoying. I guess you could work out a timetable and stuff.
