i like the way maple looks with most guitars.
do different types of fretboards create different sounds? i heard that somewhere but wasn't sure if it was true.

I like rosewood and ebony fretboards because I think they look better. They all definitely feel different, and I'd say I'm the most used to rosewood fretboards.

Rosewood and Maple fretboards have different tones. Maples have brighter tones which is why I like them much better. I wish they would make jazzmasters with maple fretboards. As for looks I don't really care, I guess I think maple ones also look better, but I would buy a jazzmaster even if it had a rosewood fretboard. The reason so many guitars have rosewood and not maple is because it's harder to get the truss rod into a neck with a maple fretboard.

Maple's tone is brighter, but marginal enough so that the appearance is way more important to me. I generally like maple on Strat-ish guitars and rosewood on Les Paul-ish guitars. Also depends on the color of the body. I think rosewood looks better overall, though, and I also feel like it's a bit harder to bend on. Maybe that's just me.
I don't really use maples, though, so I have very limited experience with them. My next guitar will be. |
