Fragrance of beer and sweat!
Who will buy that? Not me, I generate my own fragrance. |

Vomitous. I've never really cared too much about the Pistols anyway.

smells punk

While I like Bollocks okay, it always struck me as some sort of weird glam rock/punk hybrid. The songs are SLOW, with often flashy, somewhat glammy leads. Anyway, PiL is by far Lydon's best project, METAL BOX is easily one of the best albums ever... if you haven't heard that, Joe, get it immediately.. |

Oh, PiL is fantastic. And as far as what you are hearing in Bollocks...it's def there, and it was def a result of listening to a lot of Stooges and Bowie. (and just for the record...it's supposed to smell like lemon)

I can see why some might argue that that "nothing is sacred" goes hand in hand w/ punk. . . but that sort of mentality was once (within the scheme of punk rock) used to shake up the comfort zones of an audience, as well as the general establishment. Maybe Mr. Rotten feels as if the only way to do that now is to go commercial as all hell (they were always commercial, just not on this level). I have no doubts that this will be his argument if he's challenged on the subject, however, I also have no doubts that he's doing this for the money and a younger Rotten would have found it anything but challenging.
That band, despite personal opinions on the music...had (and in some ways have) and interesting story that I wish could have just been left alone. Def. do not like the idea of seeing it tarnished by the aroma of perfume. I don't associate the Sex Pistols with my local perfume dealer. I have no issues w/ people wanting to smell good (I occasionally wear cologne), but picturing these two worlds being mixed is anything but fascinating. I think punk rock, + the only aromas that come to mind are beer and sweat and maybe a little leather....not expensive lemon scented stuff sitting in a bottle with a Pistols logo. Music is everywhere, I know. It's no doubt the most popular thing in the world. It's commonly used in advertisement...but using it on this level makes no sense other than the fact that stupid punk rock kids will buy it.

i don't get the negativity. Sex Pistols aftershave. It's going straight on my bathroom shelf, right next to my Izzy Stradlin lip balm.

I don't even like G n R, but Duff kicks ass something serious. I read his blog on a very regular basis.

Are you talking about his blog for the seattle weekly? That's great. He's very open about things, but never in an attempt to sensationalise himself. Him and Krist Novoselic sometimes co-host a radio show. The music they play isn't usually that great but their conversation is always absolutely fascinating.
