You know, I can't think of a single band I want to hear? I mean, there's loads of records I should own, but bands I want to hear? I can't think of a one.
I do need to get more medieval music though. Scores, preferably. And if anyone has a hurdy-gurdy they'd like to give me, I'd be most grateful.

No-one specific, but I'm pretty miffed because this year's Merseyside Sea Shanty festival won't be on. I like the chance once a year to hear some good stuff and get some cd's. Drat.
Shantygruppe Breitling, from Rostock in Germany (topical World Cup connection - eh?) performing at the Birkenhead Mersey Ferry Terminal, 2004: Oh, hang on. Is that a bit sad? Oh, I've never heard Merzbow. They're quite popular round these parts, yes?

The Merzbow are quite a popular beat combo, yes. Their rhythm section is quite refreshingly spritely, and their singer has a delightfully soft, yet strong, timbre.

Magma are a band I like very much.
When I am in the mood. Some of their stuff is super cheesy, and if you of a certain disposition, all of it is. VERY overblown drummer-led progressive darkness with operatic vocals sung in Kobaian (a language invented by leader Christian Vander because his native French was not harsh or guttural enough for his grand vision). I enjoy it about once a year, but on that occasion nothing else will do. |

I've only heard Mekanik destruktiw kommandöh and I yet have to hear it again to make up my mind whether to like it or not. It's highly theatrical and dramatic progressive psychedelia, with choirs and stuff, maybe a bit too overkill for my taste. How does that compare to their other stuff?

That is the best stuff I have heard of them.
"Inedits" is good too. Stay away from the one with the Giger cover!!! |

The main guy in Paik is one of the coolest looking rock dudes I have seen in recent years.
