i saw on wikipedia that sister "was in part inspired by the life and works of science fiction writer Philip K. Dick".
can someone elaborate?

Well "Schizophrenia" is about him off the top of my head. I know there's more from reading Confusion back in the day.

Sister was in part inspired by the life and works of science fiction writer Philip K. Dick. (The "sister" of the title was Dick's fraternal twin, who died shortly after her birth, and whose memory haunted Dick his entire life.)

pre looking at those links, i checked out some lyrics and noticed some connections. dick's amphetamine use while writing (tuff gnarl), his working at a hi fi stereo store (stereo sanctity), his depression with all his failed marriages, the police paranoia, living with younger hippies.

VALIS is one of my favorite books.

I think I remember something about this. “Schizophrenia” definitely has references to Dick. Not sure what else off the top of my head.

Yeah from what i recal the incluencel is largely relating to the lyrics, but SYs lyrics from that era are often quite oblique so I think it is only identifiable in quite generalised ways
