I will check it out but their last few have really gotten away from me. I saw them during the "..Lemons" era and thought hey! New Sonic Youth?
Then I saw them a couple years after that and though "nope, but I'm glad I saw them and got into them. Btw: is Deerhoof like the new this?" They weren't. Turns out I totally missed hearing their first albums in proper historical context. I don't think I'll ever see them as their own band, which is a shame. I may check this out but it's not on my to-do list or anything. |

I've been a Blonde Redhead fan since their self-titled album came out. Here is how I would generally rank their output...
Blonde Redhead - A- La Mia Vita Violenta - A+ Fake Can Be Just as Good - A In an Expression of the Inexpressible - C (sorry folks) Melody of Certain Damaged Lemons - B Misery Is a Butterfly - A- 23 - B- Penny Sparkle - D I know my ranking of 'In an Expression of the Inexpressible' is likely to be blasphemy around here, but I just don't find myself reaching for that album. 'Penny Sparkle' is an absolute dud, so let's hope their new platter is a return to form. The new single gives me tons of hope! |

Penny SPark is a C+ in my book...but in an expression is at an A+ alongside La Mia Vita Violenta.

There was a point in the show where Amedeo had Kazu pinned, face/body first, into the Marshall stack...tons of noise swirl and Kazu wailing like a banshee. It was so erotic. I'll never forget the sexual energy. Amazing and dangerous. I just spun their self-titled album for the first time in years. Wow. The Smells Like Records/Steve Shelley link led me to them back then. I had only heard 'Sciuri Sciuri' before buying and will never forget hearing 'I Don't Want U' for the first time. Sonic Youth had exposed me to some fairly avant stuff, but I wasn't ready for what I was hearing at the time. The rest of the album isn't as abstract and I "get" that song with ease these days... |

I'm listening to La Mia Vita Violenta right now and memories from the June 1996 BLT's show are flooding back. When they played 'I Am There While You Choke On Me' Kazu's vocal/physical performance was so intense the place exploded when the song ended. People were yelling out, "play it again!". They huddled for a minute and launched into it AGAIN...back to back. I've never seen a band do that before and it was very cool.
