On my (step)dad's wish list:
1. A custom baseball hat reading "Problem Child" 2. A smoker attachment for his charcoal grill 3. A Merle Haggard box set 4. A 100 qt. cryogenic beer cooler 5. Tube socks and plaid flannel shirts 6. Cedar-scented potpourri 7. Weatherproof Polish flag 8. Landscape rock I chose the cooler. It seemed the least "hillbilly" option. What did you get your father on this illustrious day? |

I played a song he wrote once.
He was touched by it and I didn't had to spend any money, win-win situation.

I wonder why you Limeys have Father's Day on the same day as we do, but Mother's Day is different. Always throwing a proverbial wrench into the works.

I've no idea, truncated, it is a bit odd. Still, we do at least share Valentine's Day too, aka The Most Pointless Day In The Year. I enjoyed the "Happy Love Day" parody in the Simpson's "Trash Of The Titans".

Well, for Mother's day I took a picture of myself, photoshopped a meadow of flowers behind me, and framed it. She liked it.
Today (I couldn't think of an equivalent gift to that), I painted a picture of the picture I gave to my mom. |

Valentine's Day isn't so bad. I believe that debate came up on the board before. Nothing wrong with a bit of sentimentality, it's just being bullied into it on a specific day of the year.
I have to note my objection to greeting cards, though, unless they are homemade. Environmentally wasteful, emotionally empty, economically impractical, and the spawn of an entire cable channel dedicated to morally tyrannical TV movies. Bad Melly, bad! |

That is the picture for Mother's day. I don't have a scan of the (shitty) painting. |

Don't take this the wrong way, but that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen.

It was intended to be funny, so I'm taking it as a compliment.

I didn't take a whole lot of time photoshopping, as you can tell.

It's actually pretty impressive. You've done way better than anything I could've done.

Because we have Mothers Day on Mothering Sunday which was traditionally when people went to their 'mother church' for service during lent, not a celebration of Mothers at all. Later, Mothering Sunday became a day when servants etc were given a day off to vist their mothers or other family members and now it is treated the same as American Mothers day. Fathers day is a 20th century invention as is American Mothers day and both, like Valentines Day, are horrible, insincere shams that do nothing but line the pockets of greetings card companies. Love all that are close to you all year round. |

Valentine's day is the feast of St Valentine, Patron Saint of lovers, if memory serves. Still a sack of shite, but even so.
I got my Dad some beer and drank said beer with said Dad.
