I say without hesitation that the first Robocop movie is better than the Godfather and Schindler's List combined. I hope you all agree.

Have you seen the director's cut, rated "X" verison of "Robocop"? I saw it a few years ago and thought it was really great. Its a perfect example of how the MPAA, can really alter a movie simply by censoring a certain scene or cutting the scene. I saw the film on director's commentary and he said that the rated R version makes it seem like just a stupid action movie, instead of the more satirical approch as was intended.

I agree absolutely. It is satirical, it is a big dumb action movie, and its awesome on both counts. Clarence Bodiker is a great villain, the 'bitches leave' scene is genius but so is the rest of the film.
And the soundtrack is ace too, some of the flashback scenes are really sad. Have you ever seen the episode of Spaced where it does a take off of the scene where they are making him through his viewpoint, its genius too. Its a real shame about the sequals though |

I am from Detroit and Robocop is no joke here, In the most dangerous and rundown neighborhoods in Detroit there lay several shrines to Robocop where the beaten and abuse pray that one day he will return and purge the city of the evils that haunt it.

But it is actually a very good film, and not the trash you expect. Genuinely good.

"Robocop" is esstentially a comedic film about how "Bigger, Faster, Stronger, Louder", doesn't ALWAYS mean better, in some ways its a joke on testostrone itself. "Starship Troopers" was similar because they were both by the same director. The sequels of "Robocop" lost all the humor, and became exactly what the first one was poking fun of.

Damn, i loved robocop as a kid. When i was five my dad bought me the vhs and i watched it all the time. I remember saving up all of my change in one of those old tootsie-roll piggy banks so i could go to k-mart and buy the talking robocop action figures. I never owned the sequels but i used to rent them from the public library all of the time. I didn't like them as much.
Remember the theme? It was pretty memorable. Dun, dun, dun, dun-dun |

ed-209 is the most awesome villain ever, what with the turret guns for hands! he kinda resembled a frog, though.

Youre dad bought it for you when you were 5, I had to sneak downstairs and watch it when my parents were asleep no way would they let me watch something with so much swearing, they were okay with graphic violence but bad language was a no no. |

I know, it sounds completely ridiculous to me too. My parents have always been super strict about what i see and stuff. I mean, i wasn't allowed to watch X-Files. But somehow robocop slipped through the cracks. Very strange indeed. |
