Okay, so as you might have gathered I know positively bugger all about computers, but for a few years I've been downloading through Soulseek, and it just stopped working. So from where, and how, do I download music now? Whats the safest, most popular software out there, and which will offer me the obscurities Soulseek didn't.
Your help will be greatly appreciated! |

Yeah, it doesn't work, it does the searches alright, but it doesn't transfer the files.

Try reinstalling the software. Otherwise, fugazifan's idea or learn to use torrents.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.torrent
Basically a downloading system. I've got no other way to explain it. You need to have a torrent client (I prefer µTorrent: http://www.utorrent.com/) and a place to download .torrents from. Someone else here would probably more adept to help explain. Torrents are great, you can download movies, music, programs. and they support swarming, so it's just not one-on-one downloading like with soulseek. The only problem though is that you'll be confined mostly to full albums. Nothing is better than soulseek for finding a few specific songs.

Do a search here http://thepiratebay.org/ for starters, find something you like, that has seeders, click it, click download torrent, open it with utorrent and you should be off and running.

I'm about to give up with all of this, nothing seems to work. Basically, the problem with Soulseek, and this also seemed to be an issue with utorrent, is the files either didn't download or took incredibly long to do it. Whenever I used Soulseek web pages on internet explorer didn't load at all. I give up really

seems to me you have a port and/or firewall problem.
basically, the place through your modem that permits downloads is already being used by some other function or it's been blocked by a firewall. try the help and faq sections of slsk. |

This is probably correct. Under options/general options on Soulseek there's a test firewall/router option and that should provide some answers. You can also change your listening port there as well.
