Okay, I know man or astroman and I know the ghastly ones, but otherwise I'm kind of out of the loop on newer surf stuff... I don't want people reccomending dick dale or the ventures.. just more recent and good surf bands. THank you.

Don't know if you could call them surf as such but The Mummies are an excellent start.

shadowy men from a shadowy planet
the mermen the bomboras los straighjackets the aqua velvets some reverend horton heat agent orange covered some surf standards punk style. from mexico: los exquisitos but avoid lost acapulco, they suck and just copy dick dale and the ventures, boring as all hell and incredibly overrated. i used to know a lot but haven't followed that scene. there are like milions of compilations with lots of bands from around the world, also check out the halloween hootenanny comp that came out a couple of years ago, sure it's not all surf but it has plenty. |

Here are some from the mid-late 90s I have enjoyed:
Galaxy Trio The Inscrutable Panasonics (from Japan) A-Bones Impala (more hot rod than surf, so sue me) Davie Allen and the Arrows (vintage, but still active and kicking ass) Surf Trio Teenage Cavemen Shadowy Men From A Shadowy Planet (not strictly surf, but definitely surf-influenced) Mermen rule too; good one! Not sure if Galaxy Trio are still active, but they were fantastic live. |

The Amino Acids
They open for Dick Dale alot They're are kinda like Heavy Surf. Like Lightning Bolt meets surf with a heavy sci-fi theme. The often use a theremin in place of lyrics in their songs. Their album is: Destroy The Warming Sun. Look on myspace.com for them.

Check out the album Morning Of The Earth. It's a rad as surf album, it's from the 70's though.

Some friends of mine in college had a cool surf band called The Castawaves. They were pretty good. Don't think they ever recorded anything though. Good suggestions in this thread though. Time to do some downloading.
