Inspired by Demonrail's thread and recent listening habits...

Any good 60s psych & garage comps you all can recommend? (I've already got the first Nuggets box, and some of the Love Peace & Poetry comps)

I've been jamming these two on repeat lately:

The second disc is a mix of 60s psych

Check out:
The Misunderstood - Before The Dream Faded
The ''We Can Fly'' series is similar to nuggets but a tidbit more obscure, voluyme 4 is real nice.
The The Garage Beat '66 comp is nice also.

You're pretty set if you get the Pebbles 5xLP box.
I used to have two of those five on CD, but they're both lost now. Glad I have the vinyl!
Also, Back From The Grave Vol. eight has a few absolutely crucial tracks.
"Acid Dreams" is a good one as well.

Yeah, the Pebbles and Back From the Grave boxsets are really the cream of the bunch. Pretty much any of the comps put out on the Crypt label too. Although their quality is a bit more varied.

My favorite off the beaten path one is Crypt/Strip Records Jungle Exotica comp. Garage/Exotica crossover tunes that really reflect the best of both genres!

Those albums are great. the same with the Las Vegas Grind serious. Not really Garage as you say but definitely connected in some way.

Never listened to a comp of garage/60s psych.

What do you guys think of the electric prunes?

I'd go for Songs the Cramps Taught Us.
http://chocoreve.blogspot.com/2005/1...gs-cramps.html
The Groupies - Primitive
The Frantics - Werewolf
Buddy Love - Heartbreak Hotel
The Readymen - Shortnin' Bread (nuts)
The Novas - The Crusher (nuts)
The Fanatics - I Will Not Be Lonely
The Instrumentals - Chop Suey Rock
The Flower Children - Miniskirt Blues
These are some of the very very good ones.

I like that one single on the Nugget's album, but from what I recall, aren't they that weird band where The Electric Prunes became like a front name for different session musicians and sometimes whole other bands? I remember reading it somewhere and I'm sure it was The Electric Prunes that they mentioned.

Yep, they were the face musicians for David Axelrod's musical ideas. The first two albums are riding the pop/garage/psych train pretty well, and then after that the members left or were fired and basically Axelrod cut a couple of really slinky, mellow, jazz, rock fusion albums.
