The NOISEROOM is an autonomous surround sound installation built for pre-recorded musical works and sonic experiments. It is a musical deconstruction of a room-within-a-room as much as it is a sound studio sculpture. Each musical work which is performed in the NOISEROOM has been selected, edited and arranged for a listening situation in which the listeners can dedicate themselves to a maximum listening experience. The pieces presented in the NOISEROOM refer specifically to the concept of a so-called ‘speaker’ concert in contrast to a so-called ‘live’ concert. Each composition will be played back through a multi-channel 5.1 speaker setup that is configured according to the spatial acoustics of the NOISEROOM. The NOISEROOM is a project of Jan St. Werner, artistic director of STEIM and member of Mouse on Mars. The NOISEROOM features compositions by: Lee Ranaldo, Black Dice, Kevin Blechdom, Stereolab, Mouse on Mars, Lithops, Sun ok papi k.o., David Grubbs, Vert, Jason Forrest, Daniel Schorno, Casey Rice, Robert van Heumen, Jeff Carey, Hrvatski More information: noiseroom.org |

There are details here: http://www.noiseroom.org/works.html
MAELSTROM FROM DRIFT (00:27:25) Lee Ranaldo's second attempt at a 5.1 soundscape follows on the heels of the Drift project in collaboration with Leah Singer. This piece takes a couple of small elements of guitar from that much larger project and uses them to create a rather static state of guitar possession. While there are many subtle shifts going on in the sound spectrum, the overall effect is supposed to be rather monolithic - brain eraser type stuff. |

Noise Room - An artificial listening site created by Jan St Werner
29. Aug - 28. Sep 08 / ends in 28 days Cubitt Gallery Exhibition | Installation | London View event on a map With the Noise Room, Cubitt is proud to join the line of artificial listening sites created by Jan St Werner (Mouse on Mars) since 2005. From 29 August to 28 September, Cubitt's exhibition space is transformed into a 'sound studio sculpture': supporting a unique survey of works by contemporary music producers and composers. The Noise Room provides a total of eight hours of specially commissioned sound experiments by Black Dice, Stereolab, Sun Ok Papi K.O., Mouse on Mars, Lee Ranaldo, David Grubbs, Jason Forrest, Jeff Carey, Daniel Schorno, Robert van Heumen, Kevin Blechdom, Michel Waisvisz, Casey Rice, Adam Butler, Hrvatski, C-Schulz & F.X. Randomiz, Lithops. The Noise Room turns its attention to the 'creative listener' as recipient as well as producer. Not only does it stage a variety of contemporary (professional) sonic interpretations, it also provides a space for sonic imagination. The Noise Room features compositions that are specially produced for a multi-channelled (5.1) surround speaker system: calibrated to the room's spatial acoustics and therefore creating a sonic landscape in which the visitors can dedicate themselves to a maximum listening experience. Acoustic phenomena meet the private sensorial experience, making the Noise Room illustrate as well as generate the private act of listening. Curated by Bart van der Heide |

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought, 'Yes, of course, Lee is always in the noise room.'
Do you see what I did there?... ... Lee is fucking free! |
