I know some people are interested in this, so here is some more stuff about it, an open letter from one of the film's producers:

Likely scenario: WB will hand over a ton of their profits from the film to Fox, and the movie will be released anyway.

Thanks for that T&B. I just read it and, like Barnaclelapse, I foresee a legal nightmare but (if what Levin says is accurate) ultimately can't imagine Fox turning down a healthy wedge of the profits for a film it (again according to Levin) has no intention of making. The legal argument in favour of Fox seems to be that while it had turned down Levin's version of the script, it doesn't mean that it's not looking for a different one to to work with. And if Fox really does own the rights and really is keen to green light its own version, then things could get really tricky for Warners. Deep down I want it to go to Warners though (my favourite studio) against Fox (the one i like the least).

fox have been saying that they'd rather see the film squashed than take a cut of the profits

I don't know anything about watchmen, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about the graphic novel and have noticed the anticipation for this movie. I've read that it is about superheroes. Are we talking Superman and tights or the Punisher or the Silver Surfer or James Bond or the guy that landed the jet in the hudson?

When I was younger I didn't mind comics (usually marvel, I liked amazing spiderman) but I hated the movies. I can't think of a superhero movie that comes anywhere near a top 5, except the first two burton batman movies.

I guess my question is how well this is blended with reality. I read briefly it is in cold war era. That is a good start. Does realism mesh professionally with fantastic in this series?

I've never read Watchmen, from what I understand it's a murder mystery that involves masked vigilantes. None of them have any real powers, except for the blue guy. Also, it has a lot to do with American cold-war politics.

i don't think they would release a theatrical trailer if they can't show the movie.

I think Warner released the trailer before Fox took action against them

it's really sketchy, all of it.

fox held the rights but warner still went ahead and made the movie, but in this corporate world we live in, it's highly unlikely that they would skip legal rights of property just because they felt like doing the movie.

The murder mystery begins the story but theres a greater amount of depth to whats going on, I really recommend you all have a read before seeing the film because so much material will have been cut for run time and pacing.

So they will share the profits. Wouldnt they have from the beginning?

I'm just glad I will see the movie in march. I'm so fuckin' excited.
