as you might have read in the "what are you listening to?" thread, ive become totally re-obsessed with AMT since yesterday. i had forgotten how absolutley insane they were when they wanted to be, and the fact that while they wear thier influences on their sleeves; stockhausen, pink floyd, ash ra tempel, hendrix, can, etc.. they always sound totally unique. anyways, what are your top AMT recodrings, any format.
for me: 1. electric heavyland (just one of the craziest thing ive ever heard, like i said in the other thread, a stockhausen obsessed jimi hendrix heading a krautorck band that feautres damo suzuki and other like minded individiuals, as well as keiji haino playing rhythm guitar. 2. absolutley freakout (4 long ass songs of exactly that, freaking out) 3. new geocentric world (their best full length i think, theyve always been a band who are best when releasing small eps and such at a time, their full lengths tend to drag, but this one is real good, flows well) 4. 41st century splendid man (prolly just love the king crimson reference) 5. hello acid brothers and sisters

see i agree, but when it comes to acid mothers, i actually LOVE hearing them wank. and theres only a few musicians who i can listen to noodle and show off on thier instruments/(usually) guitars for long periods of time (hendrix, eddie hazel who actually rivaled hendrix for playing ability and made maggot brain which is essentially one loing amazing noodle, john mclaughlin, fahey, bailey, miles davis, coltrane, etc..), but i could listen to kawabata and his band of merry fucking wierdos just jam and make wierd sounds and all sorts of psychedelic chaos for hours. literally, all i did yesterday was blow off a paper i have due soon, got stoned all day, and tried playing along with some of the AMT ep freakouts on my guitar. it was exhausting and exhilirating, then me cunt next door neighbor called the cops on a noise complaint, thats when i passed out for 12 hrs. have you heard the kawabata solo record? he does a jam with tatsuya that is just nutty. two of the best musicians to have ever graced japan/the earth just totally freaking the fuck out. i think AMT could be one of my favorite bands, but for some reaosn i always fail to include them on my best of lists and stuff, which again goes back to the fact that they havnt had one defining "record", like they havnt had thier 'fun house' or 'trout mask', but theyve had shit loads of great smaller records with amazing music scattered all over the place. in any case, they rival shit like smegma, hawkwind, cromagnon, and parliament as the most psychedelic band ever in my opinion.

i used to be really into them until they started putting out 5 records a year and it became too difficult to keep up, plus i found them a bit samey live, and higashi hiroshi's synth playing is a bit corny.
i'm going to download a few of their recent albums to see what they're like though. |

Does anyone know the 4 disc set I'm talking about?
One of the discs was typical AMT, one of the dics was like nothing but keyboard noodling... I dunno. It was great. |

I'm sure I can find it on soulseek again. I just remember hearing it years ago and really enjoying it.
