Sign up. Even if ya choose (like some I know) to remain completely anonymous, facebook is a great tool to keep up w/ what's going on in the lives of many artists/etc.
I enjoy it. w/out it, I'd still be wondering what David Yow's visual stuff looks like. Strange, or maybe even not so strangely, it matches his vocals rather well.
