the 'boka boka' sound is a tremolo pedal, set with with a high depth. as for the meeeeeeennnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooowwwwww sound, im pretty sure its not guitar but some kind of tape looop or sample. it also sounds like its played backwards, possibly a section of brass music...

The partnership with Morissey was special, there's no doubt. Neither reached the same heights after The Smiths. 'How Soon is Now' was always a grand studio piece, and was never intended to be played live, although they did perform it on stage.

I'm pretty sure they use like 9 amps in that song, and that's why they never play it live

There was a piece in the NME a while back tackling that very question, I cant remember the specifics, but it was something to do with two amps hooked up and feedingback and some particular settings, the actual moves a slide, I think. if you google it you should be able to find out.

I love that song. I guess the Smiths hated that song and weren't even going to release it at first. Then they needed an extra track for Meat is Murder so they just threw it on there and it became a huge hit.

you can tell a lot of effort went into the production on that song, what with all the overdubs and amp effects described above (whoever posted that thanks). that wouldve taken ages to do, and i doubt theyd put that much effort into a song they didnt like
