I'm doing some research for a publishing media project at uni... my query to you all, would you spend £12 on a 200ish page A4 book on No Wave music. It would be edited by Thurston Moore and have contributions from the likes of Byron Coley, Elisa from Magik Markers, James Chance... basically musicians and writers from that period as well as contemporary musicians influenced by No Wave... It would also contain some photography... black and white.... well?

toxic J, hell yeah! my tutor doesn't believe me that people who are enthusiastic about such music will spend good money on a quality product.. David Keenan's book on the english underground, coil et al, was like 30 quid...
i'm trying to keep the cost as low as possible, although it will have to be quite high to cover a small print run.. |

Sounds good to me. £12 seems quite fair.

Well obviously it's not going to appeal to the general public en masse... but for someone like myself and a lot of other people worldwide this would be a very exciting proposition. I would actually pay up to £50 (or more) if it was definitive, well produced and contained some critically savvy writing as well as some cool photographs. Lets face it there is precious little around on this subject and it is possibly my favourite musical period... the Kill yr idols doc was very disappointing so there is definitely room for the right publication to sweep the board.

Too bloody right I would!
I'd even be willing to pay my £12 now to help pay towards the costs.

i would.
i've often wondered about how it's possible to define the limits of no wave though, i mean other than bands from NY in the late 70s, assuming that's what you would be doing if you're getting the markers involved. i mean, i kind of think of a group like the shadow ring as no wave, at least in kind of spiritual sense. |

Ooh, I missed this one first time around. I would buy such a book for sure.
I take it it would be a collection of writings byt noted people? £12 is very reasonable but I couldn't part with the kind of cash that toxic johnny is prepared to! Up to £15 would be reasonable for that sort of page count but I'd pay a bit more if it was a small run thing that was individual looking and nice. |
