How do you get your amp to stop buzzing

I've got an old peavey bandit amp with a guitar plugged into like 5 or 6 pedals. I'm trying to get the buzz to die down slightly

Could be any number of things. I personally quite like buzz. Loose connections/ shitty cable/ old amp/ new amp/ moisture/ lack of moisture... that sort of thing. If it worries you that much I'd take it back to the shop.

Or, you could do like that chap out of Reynols did and make a record of the hums and buzzes of amplifiers without guitars.

when is it noisy is a question too. is it noisy with amp alone is the first question. is it noisy when the pedals are activated etc.. .. maybe its just a bad patch cord. also using a power supply that doesn't match specific pedals can wreak havic. i suggest trying just amp, then one pedal at a time.

try putting your guitar next to it at full volume. that normally works for me.

does it buzz minus the "five or six pedals" ?

what environment are you in? do you have single coil pickups on your guitar? single coil pickups will hum with just normal domestic household lights and this will cause a hum 60hz in the us 50hz in aus. if it isnnot that do what hypertonic said and make sure you have a common earth. if the amp is old i would also suggest that it is quite the possibility that there is a capacitor somewhere on the pcb that is old and warn and probably cracked which will need replacing. if this is the case your amp will also hum. similarly it could be a circuit board in one of your pedals but if the amp hums without your pedals then this isn't likely.

yeah. i had the same thing with hum a while ago, one of the wires on my guitar ripped of. i just soldered it back and it stoped all te humming

what guitar do you have?
