'Ackney was very good for reggae being everywhere. Although Grime or Bhanghra (sp?) from cars was also quite popular.
Augustus Pablo not been mentioned yet? 70s Lee 'scratch' Perry? Prince Buster? Yellowman? Buju Banton? Sizzla? Lady Saw? Skatalites? What sort of reggae are you after? I'm no authority, but there's a good four or five distinct eras with oodles of artists in each.

Yo, thanks guys.
I already have the Big Youth and The Harder They Come soundtrack. thanks for the Black Uhuru recommendation, I've been wondering which one of theirs to get first. Quote:
I'm into more of the roots stuff, like the Abyssinians, so more of that. & a good intro to some dub would be nice. & don't just throw names out there, try narrowing it down to an album or something so I get the best of the best. |

Anything by the following is good in regards to reggae/dub:
Big Youth Blach Uhuru Lee Scratch Perry Prince Alla (my personal favorite) King Tubby Roots Manuva (a good segway into it if you like hip-hop) Junior Reid (Embrace yourself for some connections if you like the rapper The Game)

He is utterly shit, isn't he? Annoys the fuck out of me that there are about four million better toasters than him, and he gets the record sales based on novelty.
