Just recently picked up their debut album and I really like it. Yes, it sounds very similar to My Bloody Valentine (vocals and all) but I really like the album. I know they're doing a US tour later this Summer/early fall. I will probably go see them in San Francisco. Anyone else hear them?

Never heard of them, but I'll check them out. I generally don't like most Shoegazer bands because Loop and My Bloody Valentine tend to blow them all away while also being the most original.
I tried to get into Autolux, and I just couldn't. Bored the hell out of me. |

Yeah, these guys are a lot different than autolux. It has a little bit more of a punk feel to it.

I'm watching the video for Drain Cosmetics. They seem to sort of have a Velvet Underground sensibility with the jangly guitar and the rhythm. Sounds like the vocals are pretty heavily copped from MBV like you said, which is a shame. It sounds like they were mixed by a pop oriented producer, since the vocals and the rhythm completely dominate the song and the more intense movements and lead guitar seem to be sort of low in the mix- taking away from the eargasmic value.
This is all from one song. For all I know, it could be their worst song. I think if they dropped the MBV copped vocals and dropped the music industry related bullshit. Edit: Holy shit, there are a million remixes of this song. The band's remix makes it sound a lot cooler, all the background stuff is brought to the foreground, making it sound a lot more powerful. Sorry if I sound snobby or picky, I really just feel that the industry is really killing the music of the present day, with only a few exceptions. |

i listened to 'em and was expecting really wishywashy gtrs under tons of soft fx and such, but (at least the song i heard) was very upfront, and just straight-up distortion.. nothing fuzzy or warm.. the vocals were pretty (from memory) MBV-esque.
*Edit, upon another listen... i find them too copy-catty.. i don't hate it or anything, just it sounds a little.. i don't know.. maybe a tad boring.. unoriginal? i couldn't see myself buying the album or anything... but hey, to each his own. *Edit pt 2. the song Sapphire Eyes is pretty cool though.

On their website, under discography, you can listen to clips of different tracks from the album. Unfortunately, you can only listen to about 20 seconds of each. |
