That rats attacking people in a car thing sounds very much like part of the plot in James Herbert's book "The Fog".

EDIT - Actually it's far more likely that I'm actually thinking of the same author's "The Rats".

I think that I've involuntarily caused a few of the other movie threads to get bumped. Movies are the new Dinosaur Jr.
