yes! it’s all great. i have to recognize however that the writing is... just... this could have been a classic novel i think. jimmy is a more literary character than walter white. also, please support my state’s economy, and good-paying union jobs. Quote:
maybe yes, as it was written in that order. but on the other hand i think it could be watched as a prequel— and then ruin the mystery of breaking bad with overly familiar characters haa haaa haaa. but while the whole universe is amazing i think this stands alone very well as its own thing. |

Agreed. 100% agreed. I think I worded my statement a little poorly when saying the "cleverness is lost." That did sort of make it sound like I was saying you HAD to watch BB first or something to really enjoy BCS. I did not mean that at all. This series certainly stands alone as it's own thing. You are nailing it when you talk about the lack of hyperviolence, the literary form of this character, the human relationships developed. It all stands alone perfectly well as great television on its own. I guess what I meant by saying what I said is: SPOILERS: By "revisiting" this world in the prequel fashion as they have, they really have created an interesting challenge for themselves. But they are excelling at meeting that challenge and intentionally providing serious payoff for BB fans in their writing. They way they are "introducing" some of these characters has been amazing nerdgasm, geeky goosebump moments for me, and they are written specifically to be just that. Tuco opening that front door? You intstantly go, "Oh fuck" as a BB fan. Mike getting a full episode for his opening backstory? They knew that's what fans wanted. He's one of the coolest characters ever written. The "Don't" message to Mike foreshadowing Gus's return. Even down to Saul's receptionist coming in to work their joint firm. While the writing stands on its own for sure, there is just such an added layer of cleverness in the way they use our previous knowledge of this world that I really respect, creatively. And that is more specifically what I am saying get's lost...that ADDED layer of awesomeness to what is already awesome on its own, ha. |

I joined Hulu tonight just for the sake of easy access to Blackadder's 4 series.

Handmaid’s Tale season 2... goes beyond the book to show the logical conclusion of the evangelist agenda. Not fantasy. Horror.
Extremely important viewing. |

Urgh ANOTHER one that's been on the list of shit to watch. I've only just got round to actually doing season 3 of BCS. Forgot how brilliant it is in every way.

BCS oddly rivals even Breaking Bad in my opinion. The acing might even be better. The writing... I think the writing is *definitely* better, but it’s been a while since I last saw BB. The only problem with BCS is that you have to have seen BB to understand some of what’s — to get the full picture. But it just never fails to impress me. However, Handmaid’s Tale is at another level. It feels... urgent. I’m not saying it my favorite, because it’s not, but it’s *important* and significant in ways I don’t want to spoil. Having read the book does not prepare you for season 2. But living in America in the Trump era is all you need to give you perspective on the true horror of extremism and fascism. It’s fucking bone-chilling. Al of you, watch, bootleg and share with friends. I’m surprised Atwood isn’t insisting it be made available for free like John Oliver does with his segments. The world needs to see Handmaid’s Tale. It’s as good as The Americans, but in a different way. |

That’s why I don’t watch sports anymore. Anyway, I still love Preacher, but the first season was the best and most fun. Now they’re trying to stick closer to the source material, and and while I like what’s happened, none of t has been as fresh or hilarious as the first season. Mostly because the source material is full of some seriously bleak shit, and that makes its way into the show. I think they’re only going to do four seasons total, but I could be wrong. Definitely prioritize behind Handmaid’s Tale and BCS and American season 6. |
