Not everyone is that insecure for one to assume that intelligence is mainly to go around impressing others as if it is your only way to feel some self worth.

yes i was wondering about the bra burning thing. i read it never happened, but people seem to get extremely upset at that, because that's what feminism is/was all about, burning bras, right.

I actually agree with what you said - changing systems of discourse. I do think that when an individual expresses themselves they are contributing to the larger discourse. Using Foucault's ideology, discourse and power does not operate through a group of people sitting around and conspiring - rather, people come across things accidentally that support their ideologies and than proliferate them. That's how discourse/social justice tends to change. This can happen on individual smaller scales, and expressing one's self/transforming discourse through music can be a political act. I do think that creativity is political, but you are totally right, it's about much more than just that. And yes, the at the end of the day the listeners are the ones to decide if the music has impact.

I think that people on this thread have been defining too much by the result than that the means of action.

I would love to burn all of mine. Feminism is awesome. One of the things as a teenager that brought me to love Kim. She was always talkin about us grls. She was sayin what I was feelin. Down here in the south you still get the steriotypical male dicks who think that women are only good for makin babies and cooking. and growing up boys would'nt talk to you unless you were "fine".

it's because ppl have all sorts of reservations about feminism which really make me doubt the compassion/worth of mankind. feminism is not something which is really that radical. i think that most of us can agree that women deserve basic human rights. people think that feminism is about dismantling all male power, as though power is a completely limited resource and if one person has it the other can't. feminism is about empowerment which is not finite like such.

the fact that people continue to hold onto all these stereotypes about crazy radical feminazis with hairy legs and arms who's only goals in life involve male castration just goes to prove how strict our conception of gender roles are. we still get nervous when women start to step outside of their place and define themselves outside of the male gaze.

also, there is actually information out there about how the fbi got all freaked out about dem crazy feminists and went to absurd lengths to turn feminists against each other and dismantle the movement. if you are interested, read ruth rosen - and the world split open.

ya know in inneffible me..i think kim's talkin about bulemia..and men in the work environment ....you don't get the job unless you look the part they want..also all the corruption involved in this kind of place..then again i could be wrong

Interesting, I never saw it that way. I always thought it was about how men see women who break out of their preconceived notions - either they sexualize her as a mode of trivialization or they hate and try to break her.


ps - i don't get why everybody is bashing infinitemusic. he/she is fine in my book.
