anyway, saw the glorious DUNE

visually amazing, storywise pretty much straighforward/by the book, with minor modifications (eg, brief chani opening). i gotta say, i sorta missed david lynch's camp in this.

i don't know what other people are making out of this but i think the version finally does honor to the original novel. the casting is also great. having said that... maybe it lacks authorial imprint on the filmmaker's part? lynch's version sure didn't (he probably read the anxiety of influence in college or something lol.*)

but anyway, great spectacle, and the book is legend, so... 2.5 hours well spent.

The Harder They Fall on Netflix was fuckin’ GREAT. Lots of fun but also a really well made film.

The first movie I watched at a movie theater in two years (The Lighthouse had been my last one before the pandemic hit). Fortunately, the crowd at the arthouse-ish theater was responsible, i.e. masked.

I may be in the minority here, but I enjoyed it a lot more than Anderson's previous movie "Isle Of Dogs". So what if it's an anthology movie with stories that only overlap thematically and don't have an overarching, interwoven plot? This is an hommage to the craft of journalistic storytelling. And it's damn poignant and emotionally resonant. Some beats hit home especially hard in light of the situation we've been in globally for the last two years - even though principal photography ended before the pandemic. It just hit the right notes with me.

Also, probably one of Anderson's most frantic works so far - there's so much going on that a second or third viewing is probably recommended. And visually, it's absolutely stunning. This is in no way a lesser Anderson. I think it's up there with his classics.

anyway i enjoyed it tons and laughed a lot at many things like the little detail where a criminal looks like jean pierre melville and that sort of stuff

and benicio getting slapped by léa seydoux hahahahaaaa omfg

anyway it was tons of fun and you're right it deserves rewatches --the biggest pleasures are in the smallest details and there are so many it's hard to keep track

robinstigator will hate it no doubt lolol but thats what makes for horse racing

I did, yeah. It was especially difficult sitting in one of the back rows - pertaining to the subtitles. Plus, the theater I watched it at shows movies in their original language, but with German subtitles. So on top of the original subtitles, the screen was also cluttered with another set of subs whenever someone spoke something other than English. Funnily enough, the German subs added in post were spaced more conveniently and more legible than the in-movie subs. But at the same time it was obvious they watered the information down significantly - unfortunately a common practice in translational subtitling - I've taken courses. So I was torn between the more accurate original subtitles - which were a bit of a chore to read due to the format, and the more legible German ones, which took away some of the charme. It was weird. But nothing a cross-eyed compromise couldn't solve.

But it didn't take much away from the experience. I'm glad this was the movie I got to see on the big screen after such a long time.

I watched this on Netflix last night. It's OK-ish, but definitely not the best of the superheroes Marvel whatever movies. It tries to resemble Deadpool a lot I guess, but it doesn't come close. It's good to have a superhero movie with an all female cast though, and they are doing a good job at it, most of them at least.

Funny movie, I liked it better than the Harley Quinn one I saw earlier in the week. It's Indiana Jones mixed in with any of those buddy cop movies

ive never been a fan of royal bullshit and tabloid gossip, but this fucking film is a bit of a masterpiece with great performances and atmosphere, althought the blotchy 16mm cinematography fucked it up for me a little.

very good, i wish i were joking but no, it is very good shit.

What worked: The acting, the emotional core. It features an overall likeable and very talented cast. Special props to Awkwafina and Tony Chiu- Wai Leung. The practical stunts were well-choreographed and the cinematography was solid. I also liked the whole strength-in-gentleness theme weaving itself through the plot - not a big spoiler there.

What didn't: The overblown CGI-fest towards the end. I thought that some of the CGI was especially poor in this one. It's hard to be invested in grandiose scenes if nothing going on seems to be taking place on the same plane of existence. The final act in general wasn't quite as well-crafted as what came before. One plot-detail seemed to have been dropped last-minute or just not that well-established beforehand. That was a bit jarring. I also feel like that final act could have been cut down significantly.

Overall, an enjoyable, yet somewhat uneven watch.
