I was shocked that this was in fact a comedy, and that Euronymous was indeed portraited as a likeable, sensitive guy and a positive character. Not a very good movie.

I revisited the show a couple years ago. Season 2 dragsquite a bit, but season 1 is a gut-punch of awesomeness, hilarity and utter fucking horror straight through.

By season 3, do you mean “The Retuen”? Because I still haven’t seen that.

first episode of American Gods new season. Dug it a lot. The new showrunners have toned down the soft-porn vibe that the original showrunner added (and which was quite different in the book).

so far so good.

Yes, I meant The Return. It's quite different but great in its own right. I think of it as more of a reflection on Twin Peaks (the show in and of itself including the hype and the fan base etc.) than a sheer continuation of it. And Lynch apparently got to have more of a say in it, it shows. Yeah, Season 1 is great, Season 2 was a bit uneven if I remember correctly - some great episodes but also a few plot lines and interjections that went nowhere and were kind of unnecessary. But I'll get back to it soon anyway.

I still remember parts of it fondly. I thought the finale was pretty damn awesome and I remember really liking the "reveal" episode. Then again I was considerably younger when I last watched it in its entirety and hadn't watched as many things as I have now. But yeah, there were a few shark jumps in there. Especially after the "reveal". I'll see if the things I liked about it have held up or not soon enough. Sure, give it a try. The Return is its own beast altogether and it's quite unpredictable at times.

I did not enjoy Twin Peaks when it first aired. I did not enjoy the Fire Walk with me movie. I am not going to watch the second season.

Interesting. Are you in ABQ actually? Did not realize if so. I took the Breaking Bad tour that is in the RV there in ABQ. Did not spend a lot of time there really, just made a stop off pretty much just for that tour.

That abandoned railroad yard was actually quite awesome, and I had no idea how many things had actually been filmed there.

The Turquoise Highway was probably my favorite part of that whole trip, between Taos and ABQ. So much so, I drove it twice even though Taos was so far out of the way on my way home. (from Oklahoma, so we really don't have scenery like that too close). Was certainly an amazing road trip, and my only time to New Mexico. I really had no idea how beautiful it was in areas.

the hills around tulsa are very pretty, no? brick-red dirt, covered in trees, and the river below.

but yeah the road to taos is spectacular.

i used to live in abq at the time, yes. the crime drove me away, lol. still in nm but more rural.

Haha! Why am I not surprised you'd hate it.

I actually rewatched the whole thing just before the third season started. At the time I was totally dreading going through the 2nd season dip and to be honest, it's not that bad. There are a couple of rough episodes but for the most part there are still enjoyable stuff in it.

The third season is Lynch let loose and it's all the better for it.

so far so good.

I have heard the second season is utterly fucked due to the loss of cast members, breaking the momentum of season 1, and a new showrunner.

But I haven’t seen any of it yet.

Honestly, I liked the first season, but it was WAY more cartoony and over-the-top than I ever imagined an adaptation of that book would be.

I read “American Gods” like a mystery that slowly pulls reality apart to reveal a atarscape beneath. Never expected it would be so wild and ... bloody.

But it was OK. Not the best show to immediate deviate from the source material on.

Anyway, it’s one of my favorite books. So I’ll eventually hit season 2, but I’m not spending extra for it like I did the first time around.

If it’s universally praised and adored, Rob hates it as a rule. Movies, music, tv... contrarian as fuck.

If the general response is luke warm at best, he’ll probably have a giant hard on for it.

Ya, that's true. Tulsa area and some of the more wooded areas have their charm, for sure. SE Oklahoma can be nice, but nowhere near as nice as that part of New Mexico, ha.

I was actually mistaken about the travel from Taos to ABQ (just checked the map). It was Santa Fe to ABQ that I drove on the non insterstate highway, No. 14 that was so spectacular to me, Turquoise Trail.

I think my leaving Taos trip was down 68 (after looping the "Enchanted Circle" past Angel Fire, Eagle Nest, etc. and back around to Taos). Drove 68 from Taos over to Okeefe's studio and Plaza Blanca (fucking spiritual place). That highway was a nice treat too. Followed a river for a decent ways. Then went from there down to Santa Fe.

Man, that was such a good road trip. Absolutely fell in love with the area.

I hate watching films or TV based on some assholes dream-logic. David Lynch is an expert on this, and I believe it is empty as all fuck, purely superfluous exercises in style over any actual substance.

oh, right. “may-dreed” (madrid) lol. yes that’s that trail. there’s a weird biker bar there, and hippy art. it’s more desert. taos is more evergreens and alpine weather. i like the taos road along the river gorge. a bit slow traffic, but great views.

the big idea behind those things is that, like for the australian aborigine, dream time is the real thing and this world is bullshit. in other words—this world of Urizen (Blake’s monster) is the actual fantasy, and a bad one at that. a trap of the mind.

not saying that i dig all of his work, eraserhead puts me to sleep every time and i barely stayed awake for inland empire. his particular dreams bore me the fuck out, but when his own dreams resonate with mine or with “archetypes” in mine (yes yes that is jungian bullshit but it’s the language we have) then im staring at the real world underneath this one, and that can be a really good thing.

i feel that anything in dream ONLY APPLIES to the dreamer, hence any dream logic bullshit in a movie DOES NOT APPLY to me. It can't even begin to relate to my dreamlogic, nor yours, nor anyone else.

Erasehead is boring once you have seen it once.
Twin Peaks was obscurity for obscurity's sake and all a giant red herring (as most dreams are)
Fire walk with me sucked shit
mulholland falls was the single most masturbatory nonsense I have ever had to suffer through.
it never gets better for me with Lynch.

His least dreamlogic work, Dune, is the only one I absolutely love.
