So, I'm into some dubstep. I really enjoy Ikonika, Skream, Eskmo, James Blake, Burial, etc. etc.
A lot of my female friends are into more of the "poppier" stuff (I guess you would say?) like Rusko, Skrillex, Bassnectar.. So I went to a Skrillex show with them a few weeks ago and I gotta say..I had a blast. I guess what I'm trying to say in this pointless rant is I just like to fucking dance. |

I don't have a vast knowledge of dubstep, but I hear a lot of dubstep loyalists call Skrillex and the like "brostep" hahaha |

also, i've been getting a lot into jungle as of late. my favorite track is definitely valley of the shadows by origin unknown, those synths are awesome. but most of what i've heard is great. this "speed of sound" album by origin unknown and related artists is bliss. the 15 years of metalheadz compilation that was released 2 years ago is solid as well, though it covers a broader panel of sounds..

2562's new album, fever, is unbelievable. his best work for sure - and i loved his two previous records -. it's only made up of samples from disco records circa 1979, yet does not sound like anything remotely disco; awesomeness.

it is the style that dominated uk underground electronic music around 94-96 (if i'm not mistaken). basically, it derives from uk old school hardcore and evolved into drum&bass. i'd describe it as more organic than d&b... sampled, timestretched beats around 160-170BPM, a lot of bass but not much else - bits of synths here and there -. my description might not be super accurate, but you have to take into consideration the fact that i was only 5 when this music first came out so it's hard to have perfect knowledge of this kind of scenes when you try and get into it 10 or 15 years later. though jungle is quite well documented, as opposed to uk garage for instance. i'd recommend checking out those two records i mentioned earlier on... origin unknown's speed of sound and 15 years of metalheadz (but especially speed of sound), they both are great. |

thanks! the new factmag podcast by oneman b2b jamie xx is quite fun. recent favorites of mine: egyptrixx - bible eyes: finally got it and it is incredible, just what i was waiting for. aquatic house, sounds fantastic. great great great faltydl - you stand uncertain: wasn't too sure about this one at first but finally i love it too, sounds great. brazil's the only track i'm still not crazy about. "it's all good" induces shivers 2562 - fever: impressed me, by far his best work. unlike those two previous records i was not really waiting for it eagerly but i was 100% wrong, really innovative and great electronic music. albums i'm most looking forward to hear/get right now: kode9 & the spaceape - black sun instra:mental - resolution 653 v/a - back & 4th (hotflush recordings) v/a - 116 & rising (hessle audio) |

also, i now have heard and own all the rinse mix cds, and they're all worth it, though some are better obviously: oneman's rinse 11 remains my favorite. rinse 01 by geeneus, rinse 02 by skream, rinse 07 by spyro, rinse 08 by alexander nut, rinse 10 by marcus nasty and rinse 12 by kismet are also favorites. but they're all good really, even rinse 05 by paleface - bassline mix, and i'm not too found about bassline myself -.
really looking forward to rinse 14 by youngsta, which should be amazing. |
